Who else could've played adult Judy ?

Judy Davis was great, but a little too old I thought, who else couldve pulled off adult Judy?

-I Was thinking maybe Elizabeth Perkins, she's a few years younger and prettier than Judy Davis but still resembles Garland and is a great actress too.
Anybody agree?
Any other Suggestions?

At first I thought Judy Davis was to old but after seeing her performance I can't think of anyone who could have done it better. A fantastic performance.

Helena Bonham Carter would have lookked the part, but I don't know if she could have done the voice.

I think amanda bynes definetly should have played young judy garland (young) but nicole kidman should have played the adult version. There seriously is a resemblence.

Hmm...Perkins, maybe. But Davis was the best choice, hands down. No one can capture emotions and mannerisms like she can. Portraying a legend like Judy Garland is NO easy task. I mean, who else would've had the guts to? Even Judy Davis was quoted as saying she was a bit "daunted" by playing Garland.

Also, I think Amber Tamblyn might've made a great "young Judy". The resemblance is quite similiar, and she has the depth to have done it. But Tammy Blanchard did a good job.

I doubt we have a better actress working today, than Davis & Hollywood has no idea what to do with her.

ARE YOU INSANE?????? AMANDA BYNES FOR A YOUNG JUDY.....NICOLE KIDMAN FOR OLDER JUDY? Nicole is a very good actress, but bears absolutely no resemblance to Judy Garland. Amanda Bynes neither looks like Judy nor has any talent to portray her.

What drugs are you on?????

i dont know dude... i think Judy Davis was fantastic, i couldnt think of anyone that would of done a better job.
i know that you said that she looks little old. but thats the beauty of it. i think its looks more realistic or more into the character. Judy Garland was a very tired lady and with Judy Davis' wrinkles you see it all

reply

judy davis might not look like her, but she was judy garland!!!every pain every happy time she nailed it.... and how she had that sort of shake that people who are addicted to something have. she also made you think about how mgm really screwed her up when she went to that mental hospital and she was talking about how no one liked frances gumm judy garland took her voice was not only brilliant but a little scary

nicole kidman is an absolutely ridiculous choice - both she and cate blanchett seem to get suggested for nearly every role!
i did think tammy blanchard looked like judy (though she was too tall for the early scenes) - though i think she could have mastered the voice better. Her voice was too soft and contrasted too much to the singing voice (which was the real Judy Garland).
I actually don't think Judy Davis looks like Judy Garland very much - her acting was okay (maybe trying a bit too hard)
As for other suggestions, I was watching "Relative Values" and saw a bit of a resemblance to Judy in Jeanne Tripplehorn (Others may not agree - she is too tall but i think her facial features are quite similar)

I also think Katherine Heigl bears a resemblance particularly in these film stills from 'Stand-ins' 1997: (take a look!) - I think it is particularly when she smiles (I know that being 5'9'' she is too tall for the part though)

Why don't they get Miley Cyrus, if you squint one eye and close the other while coughing she looks a little like her, and for the older one get Michael Jackson.

Please, Nicole Kidman and Amanda Bynes?
1. They look nothing like Judy Garland
2. They look nothing like each other
3. This isn't a comedy, why get a comedian?

I know different actresses playing different parts can get confusing, but ideally, I would have chosen...

Tammy Blanchard until age 22
Elizabeth Perkins until age 35 or so
Judy Davis 36-47

It just seems like such a jump from the Girl Crazy scene to Meet Me in St. Louis...

Personally, I think I have too much bloom. Maybe that's the trouble with me.

I totally agree...

Not with the middle actress, two is fine. (truthfully I have no idea who elizabeth perkins is...)

But I think Tammy Blanchard and Judy Davis were phenomenal... and you can't argue that, since they both took home the awards for Best Actress/Featured Actress.

I DO however think that they should have kept younger Judy a little longer. Not all the way through mind you. But I agree that the Trolly Scene was a little... hard to bear, since she was so old. Thats my ONLY complaint about the whole movie, is the jump was too quick. They should have aged younger girl just a bit longer, maybe till she was about 30? It would have been nicer.

But that said, every movie has its things, and this movie was epic... and amazing.
It captured every raw emotion and it was amazing.

And am I the only one who thinks that the girl who played older Liza looked like... EXACTLY like her. Omg.

Annette Bening had been planning a biopic, but cancelled it after this happened. I think that would've been great.

If her adult life were made into a Broadway musical (which I think would be amazing), I choose Bebe Neuwirth.

Yes, it's hard to buy Ms. Davis a young woman in her 20's, but I think they said didn't want to confuse the audience by having Tammy play Garland in her 20s and mid 30's then switch to Davis for her final years. Davis played the part well. She Overracted a litte too much, but she still was good.
