Who actually likes Claire??

Who actually liked Claire?? I hated her character. A phase of it is 1 thing, but entire series of her crap really hurt the show. I got to the point i was rolling my eyes when Claire scenes came up. at times i skimmed thru her scene to still understand whats going on, but also not fully watch it either. Brenda as well could have been more a phase than entire series.

I will say both Claire's and Brenda's characters are real world persona's from some people. But I don't really care to watch it in a tv show.

I freaking love Claire. I was a lot like her in high school, and watching this show reminds me of how I was back then. I was a year or two younger than she was when the show takes place so it's nostalgic for me. But I love her. she's biting, sarcastic, and doesn't give a crap what people think about her. She's her own, creative person, and stand up for herself.

You don't care to watch a show where people's personalities and flawed traits are based on people in reality? Hm. That's disappointing.

reply

Unfortunately for her character, she, like Meadow Soprano, was forced to become the mouthpiece for the creator's and the writers' politics.

You did just fine, Clarence. Now go get yo'self some hot cornbread!

Coleburg, I really don't think "The Sopranos" has much of a liberal bias---it's far too dark and Nietzschean to believe in any kind of politics.

I love Claire, dearly. She has a lot of talent and courage, and a fiercely independent mind. Sure, she gets in a rut sometimes, but who doesn't, on the show as in life? She reminds me a lot, both in looks and in character, of a lady I loved and still do.

And yet Ted, Claire's political opposite, turns out to be one of the most well-adjusted and flawless characters in the entire show; his influence helps her to mature. If you think having her engage in an unhinged and violent political rant against a newly-bereaved family is evidence of her being a positive mouthpiece, then the writing went over your head.

Claire and Brenda are the two most interesting characters on the show. What show are YOU watching?

reply

I love Claire. I love too how she and Ted don't ride off into the sunset together - not right away anyway. They reconnect years after she leaves LA. A believable touch for a TV series of many believable touches.

I loved her. I loved that she wasn't judging people. And that's a big quality. And in the end I thought she was a good person. She had her issues in the beginning with all the teenager stuff like drugs and partying, but she was interesting. On the other hand I couldn't stand Brenda and Ruth.

Her character did act like the world owed her something for the first two seasons and acted like such a depressed child and a little bit whiney (that's all the further I am so far) but Lauren Ambrose is a very pretty girl and I liked watching her and Nate interact.

reply

She was a brat who I disliked. When she yelled at that family in the funeral...was when I checked out on her.

You know she WAS a child, right?
