Was Star Trek Enterprise Really That Bad?

That depends on what you're comparing it to.

Compared to TNG, it was a step backward. Compared to STD and PIC it's a masterpiece of epic proportions.

My wife and I liked it until they went into a long story arc about the Xindi (sp?). Once we missed the second or third episode of the arc we stopped watching until it came back around in reruns. By the time it did, we were done with it.

I honestly think two-parters are great and anything three or more parts hurt the series.

It's better than the current Star Trek

Back when it started, I remember having no interest in watching another ST series. In the late 80s and early 90s, I loved TNG (though I never saw most of season 7), and later, I watched Voyager when I could. DS9 I missed at the time. I also saw all the movies. So by 2001, I'd had my fill of Star Trek.

Fast forward to today. With netflix, I saw DS9 and loved it. I watched TOS, which I hadn't seen since I was a kid in the early 80s, and very much enjoyed it as an Adult. I rewatched TNG and enjoyed it too (yes, even the Polaski episodes).

I hated Discovery. Picard is watchable (mostly from a nostalgic point of view)

Lower decks was cute, nothing more.

This week I started watching Enterprise, and so far I'm really enjoying it.

The First two seasons were great.
The third was good, but the Xindi thing dragged on for way too long.
I watched the first episode of season 4, and I'm starting to think they've jumped the shark.
Should I continue watching?

reply

Season One and Two were just so dry.

I just finished watching all four seasons. I seem to be in the minority by liking the first two seasons more that 3 and 4.
Overall, it just didn't really bring anything new to the table. And the characters weren't as interesting as other star trek series.

Not "that bad", rather its first season lacked originality.
