The most cringe worthy scene on any Harry Potter film

The one with Nearly Headless Nick and all the house ghosts.

It's so cheesy and dumb I actually have to fast forward.

The last shot in Prisoner of Azkaban, when Harry flies on his firebolt towards the screen and his blurred face is frozen up close before the credits. Always hated that.

I review horror films at: http://www.oh-the-horror.com/
500 with pics!

this is it, and I don't care what the rest of you think, if you don't agree, you are tards:
"HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!"
so awful.

The most cringe worthy scene for me comes from one of my favorite Potter films, The Prisoner of Azkaban. Daniel Radcliff's attempt at crying and the way he said, "He was their FRIEND!". A very close second is the shrunken heads in this movie.

Daniel's crying was actually rather good; his eyes were red and full of tears...but the sounding was off; the sobbing sounds which were clearly Dan's sounded like it had been pre-recorded and played as a sound-over and the timing was a bit off there.

And film!Harry was much too loud; I agree that it was unnecessary to have Harry scream his head off and have a huge public meltdown. Book!Harry was much more reserved and would have been embarrassed at having a public meltdown.

Not to mention the scene right before where the have film!Harry rudely slam into the carolers and knock them over; I kind of cringed in that scene because that is NOT Harry at all; book!Harry would die before he'd bulldoze complete innocent strangers over like that, esp. Christmas carolers.

I don't know why, but I find quite a few scenes in OotP quite cringe-worthy, specially the part at the start where Harry threatens Dudley with is wand and the others laugh

reply

The scene The Deathly Hallows Part 1 when Harry starts dancing.

reply

I think that was in the book, actually. It was fitting because Dudley's "friends" were ignorant as to what Harry's wand could do while Dudley had a good idea and when he cringed, I think the "friends" were also laughing at Dudley's crap fit also.

I wish people wouldn't put the same answer over and over in this thread. I read through all seven pages to make sure I didn't answer the same as someone else, and the reason it's so long is everyone putting down the same thing. They need to have a 'like' button on here or something.

And if you say every scene in every movie was bad, then why the heck are you respondin to this thread? I wouldn't want to single anyone out or start an argument with anyone, but it seems like a waste of time.

Anyway I love all of the movies, but there is one scen that I'm surprised no one else seems to have noticed.
The beginning of Goblet of Fire when Harry is having his dream and Hermione comes to wake him up. Not to go into too much detail, but the way he's writhing around on the bed like that, realistically speaking, it should have been somethin like this...

Hermione opens the door without knocking and stops suddenly when she see's Harry.
"Oh, Harry!" she says, a blush forming on her face.
"Hermione! I was just..."
"It's fine. Mrs. Weasley sent me to wake you and Ron up for breakfast. Just come down when you've finished," she leaves the room as quickly as possible.
She and Harry don't make eye contact for a week.

No, that would have been a stupid scene. Hermione knows Harry well and would not blush around Harry or act all embarrassed. Not to mention it would have been a waste of good film scenes to make a point of showing Harry and Hermione avoiding each others' eyes, which would be too far from book canon anyway.

Actually, Harry would be more likely to blush; he's much shyer than outgoing Hermione; book!Harry would likely have been embarrassed to have Hermione see him tossing and scared and most likely would have been the one blushing. Harry's always been a good blusher.

It was fine as is. Although in the book, Harry wakes up from that dream before he goes back home to his own world; he's at the Dursley tot barn when he has the dream.

The scene in the film actually did a good job matching Harry's book reaction, although it's true that Harry wasn't truly tossing around. But the way his brows slanted and his eyes flew open wide and scared...that scene was matched very well in the book.

Even the picture at the beginning of the second chapter of the GoF book has a picture of Harry sitting up, his eyes wide with fright and his brows slanted as he clutches his scar.

The film and Daniel do an excellent job duplicating Harry's facial expression there; Daniel's brows are slanted and his eyes are huge with fear when he wakes up.

Good, good scene that's fine as is.

I don't think you got what Kenny was implying... or maybe I just have a dirty mind!

reply

No, in the book Harry saw Dudley and his "friends" on a street corner, saying goodbye, and Harry caught up with Dudley on his way home, and Harry started to bug him, which ended up with Harry treatened Dudley with the wand because he mentioned Cedric and that Harry had cried at night.

No, Harry defended a kid that Dudley and the gang were bullying; Dudley was not just innocently minding his own business there. Harry did not "start to bug" Dudley for no reason.

But the rest of that scene is true.

I personally, have go with the (ackward) hug between Voldemort and Draco (Hallows part 2.)

POA had the most cringe-worthy moments, easily (IMO). The shrunken head in the nightbus was so annoying, then there's Harry's "He was THEIR FRIEND", Hermoine's "That felt GOOD", the first flight on Buckbeak, and probably most of all that animal noises scene, and that's only mentioning a few! I hear so many people complaining about TGOF when I feel that the main cast's acting in it is light years better than than the previous film. The only scene in TGOF in the same league of cringe-worthiness as the previously mentioned ones was that introduction of the Beauxbaton girls blech...

I'm saying this as a huge fan of all the movies, just keeping it real.

reply

~"looks like harry's got himself a rogue bludger. *pointing finger angrily* that's been TAMPERED with that has!!!!"

Reading that cracked me up. :-D

I can't believe no one has mentioned this, but in POA when Sirius and Lupin are reunited in the Shrieking Shack...lmao at the way they greeted each other, squirming in each other's arms. It was totally cringe inducing. Also in SS, this isn't cringe worthy, but when Harry was getting his wand and Mr. Olivander said it was curious that Harry's wand had the same core as Voldermort's etc. The way Dan delivered the "What's curious?" line always made it sound like he was asking what the definition of the word curious was.

Also several times throughout the movies the way Dan blinked in some scenes was funny. He did this weird one-eyed half blink thing and it was sort of distracting and laughable. It happened more throughout the first two movies.

I've never fooled anyone. I've let people fool themselves.

Yeah!! I completely noticed that. Annoyed the crap out of me.

Why is everyone so hostile today? Must be something in the school lunch. (shrugs)

Would be funny if his response was like Lesley Nealson's responses in the Airplane movies. Give the actual definition of the word, say that is not important though.

1. HBP- all Harry/Ginny scenes, but the shoelaces moment is the winner, that was seriously creepy as hell, if I were at Harry´s place,I´d run away from her.
2.DH1- Harry/Hermione dancing- it was cute, but for me out of character, it looked as a foreplay to... uhm nothing.
3.PS- Voldemort tried to kill me?- the delivery was horrid
4.POA- 99% of Ron scenes, they made him seriously too stupid in this one
5. GoF- The ending, esp. when Hermione says,´Everything´s gonna change.´And Harry comes to her, no expression at his face and replies,´Yes.´ and she gasps, that was painful.
6.OotP-the moment in the common room after Harry´s detention with Umbridge when he says to Hermione´....but I have no parents´
7.CoS- ´Don´t worry I will be.´ Harry´s reply to Lucius Malfoy at the end, he was so seriously looking there
8.DH2- I´m sorry but I´m no fan of the epilogue- to weird and over the top.

And don´t get me wrong I love Harry Potter, even with all the cheesy moments. :-D

Get back you stupid bird,so I can love you.-Dr. Sheldon Cooper
