The most cringe worthy scene on any Harry Potter film

The one with Nearly Headless Nick and all the house ghosts.

It's so cheesy and dumb I actually have to fast forward.

reply

A guy on another thread was talking about how the movie was better than the book. I don't remember getting so many 'cringe' feelings from the books.

reply

I hated the "you're the weak one" stuff in Order.

But, to me, the most cringe-worthy scene in any film of Harry Potter is Michael Gambon trying to be Dumbledore when Richard Harris took the on-screen character with him when he passed.

___
"Avada Kedavra!" -Lord Voldemort

reply

I thought the OoTP scene with "WHO WANTS ME TO OPEN IT?!" *cheers* was cringe worthy but the payoff was pretty funny. It made sense for that little out of character bit just for everyone to be left grimacing and covering their ears.

Last scene of CoS, of course. AND the scene just a bit earlier:

"Ginny...I just...wasn't...fast enough..." Bad delivery, bad dialog. And to top it all off...
*Fawkes!* "Of course! Phoenix tears have healing powers! It's going to be alright, Ginny."
WOW. More bad delivery on Daniel's part and that seemed like such a terrible deus ex machina if you hadn't been paying attention to that extremely brief line 1.5 hours earlier about a phoenix's powers.

There were a lot of cringe-worthy scenes in Harry Potter movies. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Harry Potter, but I can't help but notice plenty of cheesy, embarrassing moments (especially for the first two movies.)

-) "Sorcerer's Stone": when Harry shakes hands with literally a couple of people at the Leaky Cauldron. Wasn't he supposed to shake hands with everybody there? Instead he shakes hands with two UNenthusiastic witches who spoke as if they were merely reciting their lines. Oh, including Quirrel's "M-M-M-Mr. P-P-otter, n-n-n-nice t-to meet y-you at l-last." When I first watched that whole scene I actually looked at the ground, waiting for that scene to pass.

-) "Sorcerer's Stone": "NEARLY Headless? HOW can you be NEARLY headless?"

-) "Sorcerer's Stone": "Eye of rabbit, heartstring hum, turn this water into rum." Once again I looked at the ground.

-) "Chamber of Secrets": Molly Weasley's "There is only one place to get all those: DIAGON ALLEY." I didn't like how she delivered that and the sense of "excitement" she expressed when she said "Diagon Alley."

-) "Chamber of Secrets": All of Filch's scenes, complete with dialogue deliverance and acting.

-) "Chamber of Secrets": Colin Creevey's first appearance.

-) "Chamber of Secrets": Dialogue between Harry and Ginny at the end. Ginny was just so unconvincing that it's unbelievable the director didn't shoot that scene more to achieve better results.

-) "Prisoner of Azkaban": The Knight Bus sequence and the Shrunken Heads.

-) "Prisoner of Azkaban": The Fat Lady singing was really unnecessary.

-) "Prisoner of Azkaban": "HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!" and "I hope he finds me. If he does I'll be ready, I'm going to kill him!" Radcliffe looked like he was fighting the urge to laugh throughout that part.

-) "Order of the Phoenix": The way Dudley said "Don't kill Cedric" was just so annoying.

-) "Order of the Phoenix": Uncle Vernon's "JUSTICE!" I hated how he had to show off all his teeth when he said that. And the way Aunt Petunia walked towards the car, I was like WTF?

"Read it, control it, unhinge it."

In PoA, I think (Ive only seen it once)...Draco and that freaking paper crane!!!

reply

Don't bash the eating candy scene in POA. I think this scene adds a LOT of human emotion to the films that the previous 2 lacked. I do agree with the end of CoS... corny.

But on with my comment: I think the worst by far is in GoF when Beaubaxtons and the other school come into the hall and do their little opening routine (particularly the one with Krum and the poles ... it was ridiculous).

In POA, when Harry and Hermione went back in time and they see Hermione punching Draco, I hated how she pushed Harry back against the wall and was like "This is a Time Turner Harry" or whatever. Emma did it waaay over the top. Incredibly cheesy.

Before too long you'll only be a memory.

reply

The scene when they have just finished the chess match and Hermione is telling Harry that bravery and honestly is better than magic. cringe o meter 10/10

Rear Window 9
Harry Potter 1 8
Of Mice and Men 8.5

reply

i hated the scene introducing the ghosts. particularly the kids giggling "its the bloody baron" all excited - its been a while, but i thought the baron was supposed to be scary! he's all bloody and menacing and whatnot...

the ending of CoS was super duper cheesey too.

There are too many mediocre things in life to deal with and love shouldn't be one of them.

reply

In GOF when Hermione is walking down the steps at the Yule Ball. Parvati gasps and says "she looks beautiful!" and then Harry turns around and just stares with his mouth open. Then Viktor Krum walks up and kisses her hand. That part makes me cringe every time. I'm not sure why. However, when Hermione and Krum are walking away and she giggles and gives a little wave to Harry, I think that part is kinda cute.

reply

Sorcerer's stone:
Uncle Vernon: "There's no such thing as magic!" It's just kind of childish.
Hagrid: "Not all wizards are good." It like, oh really???? There goes my perfect world.
Hermione: "Never better." *squirm*
Harry: I'm not going home, not really."
Chamber:
Harry: "I can't let you out Hedwig. I'm not allowed to use magic outside of school." and "Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall." It just seems obvious they're putting those there for people who didn't read the books.
Also, Dobby gets kind of annoying in this.
Ron: "By the way Harry, happy birthday." The timing of it is just cheesy.
Molly: There's only one place we're gonna get all of this...Diagon Alley." I really, REALLY can't stand that. Her kids have been going to Hogwarts for years, does she really think they don't know?
Harry (when leaving the diary): HAAAAGGGGGRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!
Harry: "There's no Hogwarts without you Hagrid" and I think about this time Dean Thomas goes: "Yaaaayyyyyyy!" It just seems unlikely that a 12-year-old boy would do all this in front of the whole school
PoA:
-I can't stand the shrunken heads
- Ron agreeing with Snape about Hermione being a know-it-all
- The last shot of Harry's face frozen into a huge smile
GoF:
Harry: "I love magic" Come on, he's seen more amazing things than the tent in his years at hogwarts.
Order:
-I don't really like the Grawp scene in this
- the scenes with Filch
But that being said, I really love movies (even though it may not look like it) and thankfully, there are getting to be far fewer cringe-worthy scenes as the series goes on

reply

Harry: I'm not going home, not really."

What was so cringe-worthy about that one? Just askin'.

And I think a few people on this board are overreacting but oh well, each to their own.

Harry: I'm not going home, not really."

Actually, that quote and scene were highly appropriate. I think Harry either says this or thinks this in the book also; I have to re-check. But it is fitting either way because the WW is home to Harry, not the Dursley toddler lodging.

I myself always think, Welcome home, Harry in each film when he returns home to the WW and his people.

reply

Ive got 2 really good ones, though I'm not sure if they were in the books or not, I only ever read the first 2.

The scene in GoF after the slow dancing in the Yule Ball. That cheesy band playing just completely detracts from the movie. That, and it's ridiculously bad music.

Also, the scene in OoF where Filch has those giant pimpleish things (cant remember what the Weasley Brothers called them) and one of them explodes right in front of the camera. When I'm thinking about the movie, that scene always kills the movie for me.

reply

Every single scene in OotP

I want Sean Whalen! I want him bad!

reply

TBH, after spending many years watching and loving Star Wars, and having seen the prequels many times, HP is a breeze for me. You want cringe-worthy watch episode 2 of SW. I love SW to death, but I guess it desensitized me to anything else that I would have found cringe-worthy had I seen it beforehand.

reply

>All the scenes where Harry has to cry. Daniel Radcliff CANNOT act when it comes to crying.
The PoA scene in Hogsmeade was really annoying.
Or when Harry comes out from the maze in GoF and cries over Cedric's body. He acts as if Cedric and Harry were best mates and that he JUST saw the body instead of seeing it happen about half an hour ago.
>All of Dumbledore's scenes in GoF (Dumbledore manhandling harry? Sprinting into the room and hoping over a stool to reach Barty Crouch Jr. instead of calmly standing in the doorway? I mean C'MON.
>Gambon was good in OotP though.
> the Buckbeak ride made every1 I went with go WTF? I half expected Daniel Radcliff to scream "IM THE KING OF THE WORLD!!!" The scene was beautiful cause of the location though. But still *CRINGES*

"hahahahahaha hehe hoho he ho he haha he ha ho!!! And I thought My jokes were bad"
-The JOKER

reply

Nothing will ever beat "HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!!!!!" for me. Awful, awful, awful.

Michael Gambon also has a lot of cheesy moments like in GoF when he practically throws harry into the wall as if Dumbledore would ever act in such a way.
"DID YOU PUT YOUR NAME OF GOBLET OF FIRE!!!!???". So corny.

Freeze frame at the end of the third one is also pretty bad. It's just incredibly silly that they had to end it on such a stupid and giggle-inducing frame. The end to all of the movies though are generally really cheesy.

reply

As cheesy as the movies are, I still love all of them (of course, the books are FAR better). However, one scene I cannot stand is in Goblet of Fire when Dumbledore pratically slams Harry into the wall and screams "Did you put your name in the goblet?!" I mean, really, Dumbledore never acts like that.

reply

Me too!!!! Dumbledore was way too out of character there nor would he angrily shriek Harry's name in the Great Hall. In the book, the canon DD quietly calls Harry's name, then gently asks if he put his name in the goblet and when Harry tells him no, DD nods and accepts that and never accuses Harry.

reply

thank god, I actually thought I was the only person who noticed this. I wonder what they were thinking when they decided 'we should have dumbledore pin harry against the wall.'

Let's go inconspicuously...through the window.

ps we all forgot an OBVIOUS ONE:

~colin's face when he almost gets hit by the brooms.

~malfoy landing spread-eagle after falling off the broom.

Every scene with the Dursleys. Talk about cheesy overacting! Every Chris Columbus movie paints the adults as laughable buffoons beyond reality.

reply

last muinute point at the end of the first film..... aghhhhh

reply

When it comes to the Dursleys, I far prefer the laughable buffoons to the heartless jerks they become in the later books. I'm just as happy the Dursleys have been pretty much left out of the later films.

- Dumbledore getting angry at Harry in GoF.
