The most cringe worthy scene on any Harry Potter film
The one with Nearly Headless Nick and all the house ghosts.
It's so cheesy and dumb I actually have to fast forward.

The prisoner of Azkaban scene where the boys are eating the sweets or whatever they are and becoming animals...that scene must have been so ridiculous to film. I hate it, it makes no sense

The worst is in SS. "Happy Christmas Harry" "Happy Christmas Ron"
shareI think most parts of the movies can be classed as cringeworthy. I laughed to much reading these posts. I don't re watch the films after seeing them at the cinema, just cant bring myself to do it but now reading those it makes me want to watch them again.
I don't like watching them with people who haven't read the books, i.e my dad and boyfriend. Whenever an embarassing scene/line is coming up, I distract them so they don't hear it. I dont want people judging the books on the film!
[deleted]
This cracked me up. My ex and I got together when we met at the pub and somehow got on to how he'd never seen the movies - he said he'd always intended to watch them but never had, so our first few dates were watching every movie and he hated them. It really highlights how corny they are when you watch them with someone who doesn't know the story. I kept telling him to read the books because they're actually amazing but he refused. It frustrates me that people think HP is terrible because they've only seen the movies but not read the books. I like the movies but they could have been so much better.
shareI might actually read the books, because they might be alright. The films have some of the worst child (over) acting I can remember seeing in film. Good for adults? Well, ok.
shareYou haven't seen many movies if you think the child actors were that bad. They were newcomers and not great, but they did get better.
Bob
I'd be very surprised if you've seen more, in all honesty. We can do some dick measuring if you like.
I was just surprised at how consistently over acted it is. It's like they all came from a background in pantomime, and the director thought their over acting was spot on.
I only re-watched about 10 minutes of it before the chess game scene, and every single reaction or expression was completely forced and mechanical, lines being delivered with all the nuance and realism of a Famous Five story. Just my opinion.

Perhaps I need to approach it as an example of a particularly British, and (I hope) obscure cinema. Of course acting can be stylised, and realism not even important, depending on the film. However, Radcliffe looks like he is fed his lines, and his expressions, and so do the rest. Leaving them the appearance of two-dimensional stock characters. That's a kind of 'acting' I suppose, and one you might get to be very good at, it's just not what I expect from people pretending to be actual humans, with actual emotions, and motivations. So not acting in any sense that I meant.
"I was just surprised at how consistently over acted it is. It's like they all came from a background in pantomime, and the director thought their over acting was spot on."
This may have been a way that Christopher Columbus handled the acting of the kids. I noticed one scene in the first movie (I don't remember what the scene was) where it was obvious that Emma was waiting for a cue from the dialogue before she started acting. I think the director did this for the most part for the kids, giving them a cue such as a line or action that reminds them when they should be reacting or doing something.
But as I said before, this can't just be blamed on the child actors. These were the best takes as decided by the director since they were put into the final movie. This is what the director obviously wanted.
Bob
Or this was what the director had to go with after 16 takes. We don't know.
If we blame the director then we can logically infer that he didn't have a lot to work with and those instructions which lead to such clunky acting were a result of the inabilities of the actors to take his direction without acting like automatons.
The worst is in SS. "Happy Christmas Harry" "Happy Christmas Ron"
What's wrong with that one? I think it's perfectly fine and fitting. I think they say this in the book also. And I love the Happy Christmas, most British say this instead of Merry Christmas. I thought it was a sweet scene.
They were eating animal crackers. You know how they have animals and train sugar cookies in the little novelty box that looks like a train car? You're right on the pointlessness, though. They cut so much of the story for the films, only to add little silly scenes.
"Clever, that. I had thought the sky was ... real." The Vampire Lestat
i think on the way to the quittich match in the beggining of goblet of fire, when the kids fall and the parents walk out of the sky like marry poppins after transporting.
shareAh, Paddy, I LOVE that scene. It's one of the few times in the later HP films where you see the kids just being typical kids. Tell me Wizarding kids wouldn't do that!
shareI agree with the colonel. The animal scene was the worst.
shareMy old best friend and I used to love that scene. We were probably like 11 and we would A-B repeat Ron's roar because we thought he was soooo hot.
Watch it!
Harry's "I'm the king of the worllllddd!" ride on Buckbeak is pretty bad.
And I agree about the boys eating sweets and making animal sounds. The worse part is they get into a girly pillow fight at the end. Ughh.
"Harry's "I'm the king of the worllllddd!" ride on Buckbeak is pretty bad."
Ha ha, it's funny, but I've always really liked that scene. But I think it's mainly because of the gorgeous scenery we see as Harry flies over hogwarts and I think the music in that scene is beautiful too.
You just reminded me of how horrible HP3 was.
shareHarry's "I'm the king of the worllllddd!" ride on Buckbeak is pretty bad.
I might have to agree about the buckbeak ride, that was painful to watch.
Really though, anything that is put in for no reason, when we could have gotten some content makes me hurt on the inside.
Ooh, also...the random trench coat clad Sirius at the train station on OOTP, the words are nice but the wardrobe selection is distracting, and not in a good way.
"No, you silly girl, I'm trying to protect yours." ~Edward on virtue.
Oh and I forgot the worst one... The last scene in Chamber of Secrets.
Hands down, the most cringe-worthy scene is definitely the last scenes in CoS, where people are clapping for nothing, we get that pathetic hug and 'it wouldn't be Hogwarts without you, Hagrid'. Just thinking about it makes me reach for a bucket!
"I always pretend to root for Gryffindors but, secretly, I love my Slytherin boys."~ Karen, W&G
I agree with ALL of the above. However my personal worst is when Harry, Hermione, and Ron are in Hogsmeade in the 3rd one and Harry is 'crying' and yelling 'i'm gonna kill sirius black!!'
work on your acting buddy
What, you've never in your life experienced anger and sorrow at the same time? Or had an emotion so powerful that (even though it isn't grief or sadness) it overwhelmed you to the point of tears?

"HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!"
Official Bleeder
Yes...that was awful...and the girly crying noises he was making...BLECH!
CURSE YOU SNACKS!!! CURSE YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU!!! -Zim
For me it was "HE WAS THEIR FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
George Weasley is more holey than you ever will be.
I actually cant think of any cringworth scenes lol, but I guess the 'He was their friend' part was the kinda cringe-worthy.
I liked the scene at the end of COS, it still bring a tear to my eye lol. I think its sweet, and it shows just how much of a father-figure Hagrid is to Harry.
[deleted]
How about a scene where Emma Watson's eyebrows take centre stage......
share[deleted]
At the end of SS, when Hagrid comes in the Great Hall and all the kids go over to him, it's like he didn't even do anything, why are they cheering for him?!
shareThere's no real acting in Harry Potter, there's just mediocre theater acting.
and the girly crying noises he was making...
Nothing "girly" about crying, but yes, it was a bit too loud for quiet Harry; Harry in the books cries much more quietly. It sounded more like how Daniel cries; Daniel sobs and wails when he cries.
Quieter Harry sobs silently, but intensely with silent tears running down his face.
It would have been much more effective and accurate if they'd seen Harry's footprints (and WITHOUT the ramming down the carolers) seen the place of his butt where he sits in the snow, then Hermione lift the cloak and then show Harry with silent tears running down his stricken, brow-slanted face as he turns toward his friends.
That would have been a better representation of that scene.
omg yes the last bit of prisoner of azkaban is just "nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnope" for me
shareHe worked on his crying between 3 and 4. His crying following the graveyard scene in # 4 was much more effective than in the Hogsmeade scene in # 3.
shareSomeone's mistaking marvelous acting for bad acting.
The one you responded to, not you, FTR.
When I was a lad, I would juggle some eggs and then swallow them while I said, "Large."share
I love the books more than the film.
In the book, Harry hated flying on Buckbeak.
Yet in GoF, the whole king of the world deal... not a fan.
Oh and, Voldemort standing on Platform 9 and 3 quarters, in OoP? It wasn't scary, it was almost comical, when Voldemort is actually someone of great terror and destruction.
Oh, and throughout all the films, Voldemort is pronounced wrong. JK said herself that the T on the end was intended to be silent. So the correct pronunciation would be 'Voldemore'.
But I still love books and film hah.
Funny you say that. I have been listening to the audio books and the guy that does the reading only seems to say Voldomore when is he reading Dumbledore. I know for sure he is saying Voldomort with Harry, think is does with everyone else as well.
PRIVATE PROPERTY. TRESPASSERS SHALL BE EXECUTED!
In the first movie, Radcliffe for some reason pronounces it "Vol-de-malt." It's like a fountain drink. "I'll have a chocolate voldemalt, please, with sprinkles on it."
Radcliffe also has a sort of humorous moment when he asks Firenze, "What WAS that THING you SAVED me from!?" The way he says it is a bit over-the-top. He seems to repeat "What WAS that!?" a lot in the films.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chaos. Good news.
lhan817...WHERE are you getting that information from? Lol.
sharei agree with almost everything listed above, especially the animal cracker scene, and the 'HE WAS THEIR FRIEND'. mainly 'he was their friend'...that was completely terrible acting.
not mentioned yet...the fat lady singing. not funny whatsoever. oh, and harry saying 'i love magic' in GoF, i havent seen that mentioned yet. i just thought it was really lame that they thought it'd be funny for him to say that, when this was harry's fourth year in the magical world and he'd seen much more interesting things than a fancy tent. there are so many funny bits in the books, but the directors seem to leave out rowling's humor and put in their own, which is never amusing.
oh, and in GoF after the first task when everyone in the common room is encouraging harry to open the egg. 'WHO THINKS I SHOULD OPEN IT?' *everyone cheers* 'YOU WANT ME TO OPEN IT?' * more cheers*. seemed kind of out of character to me...harry never particularly enjoyed being the center of attention like that.
oh, how about that scene towards the end of OoP? 'you're the weak one. you'll never know love. or friendship. and i feel sorry for you'. i hope i'm not the only one who was practically rolling their eyes at that scene because it was so cheesy. i know there's the theme of how powerful love is occuring throughout the books, but rowling never worded it in such a lame and cheesy way.
Heart are you American? The reason I ask is because IMO, it was a knock on the old Memorex commercial where an opera singer (or maybe it was a rock singer? anyway...) breaks the glass with her voice, and the voiceover asks, "Is it live or is it Memorex?"
The fat lady was kind of full of herself, lol.
In the Chamber of Secrets when Harry Potter finds that petrified kid by the ststue and Mr. Filch sees him and Harry turns and says "No, you don't understand..." His voice just sounds soo weird and creepy I have to mute it or Fast Forward it.
shareHow about every scene in every movie? That sounds about right.
"Dwight, you ignorant slut!" - Michael Scott
Theres one no-one has ever mentioned.
In OOTP during the DA montage, Neville casts a spell successfully and Harry say ' Well done, Neville. That was great.' Suddenly all the girls crowd around him and cheer for him like hes some kid with a learning disability.
GofF - at end " Do you think we'll ever have a normal year at Hogwarts" .... "promise you'll write both of you ....harry will wont you harry"
Order of Phoenix "we have something worth holding onto, something voldermort doesnt have" cheesy,
the ends of them are all cheesy i would have loved if they had done the scene of the weasleys n moody talking to the dursleys at the station tho.
You seem to all be forgetting the most stupid cringe inducing Harry Potter scene of all time.
GoF, at the start when the Girls school led by Fleur is walking into the hal with romantic music, and every couple of steps, going "aaahhhh" and flailing their wrists.
[deleted]
Thank you for that, MC. I always think, are Beauxbatons people crazy?
Durmstrang, on the other hand, now THERE's an entrance!
I know this is an uber late reply, but your post made me laugh so hard!
How about in SS after the first Quidditch match, Harry's just standing there with a sh!t eating grin on his face. lmao.
hahaha priceless!
btw I do love the films, but there are always cringeworthy moments in them. The end of CoS is the worst!
