While generally correct, it's actually closer to mid 1800s, maybe late 1840s at the earliest. Remember, Ariel was apparently the reason why Hans Christian Andersen wrote the original tale if the TV series is to be believed, meaning the original film had to take place at least on 1836, if not 1837 (thanks to the writing and publication dates).

PLUS in the film Bride of Frankenstein there is a MERMAID! (doll sized and in a jar)

Personally I alsways thought that Disney's version took place in 1789
1. Was Mozart's cameo during Ariel's time or during Triton's time, because the articles I read never actually said when exactly the cameo occurred (since Triton did have a flashback to when he was a kid).
2. I might be mistaken since I've only read up an article on it, but I'm pretty sure Scuttle's debut episode doesn't even mention Beethoven at all, much less that Scuttle played a role in his fifth symphony.
3. And unless they directly mention Mary Shelly's Frankenstein in the episode, I really am not going to use any similarities an episode has to the book as a reference to it regarding time periods.
Either way, the problem is that the Hans Christian Andersen thing actually played a huge role in the plot and was not merely a cameo.
EDIT: Never mind, I read up one of my sources again, and it DID mention he made a cameo, though it was put in quote marks which suggests the cameo may have been dubious at best.

I know the episode, and I actually edited my post to reflect the Beethoven bit. However, the question with Mozart still stands, as we still don't know if it was during Triton's childhood or Ariel's present day in that episode (though considering that it was Ariel's playing of the Sea Calliope that woke the Seaclops and not the piano or bathtub, and the Seaclops apparently woke up earlier during Triton's childhood and blew up the Sea Calliope, I might be forced to assume that it was the former, especially when Triton, unlike Ariel, was strongly implied to be a good player at the Sea Calliope and thus probably wouldn't have woken the Seaclops with the Calliope playing).

Different time periods had different laws and standards. Yes, it's Ariel - the same Ariel who lusted after him and worshiped a statue of him. lol No secret her feelings were not just innocent and platonic. lol
Agreed. Well, aside from your inference that Ariel was lustful of Eric, she wasn't. You want lustful, look at Claude Frollo in Hellfire. Heck, look at the wolf from Red Hot Riding Hood.
