I'm not talking dislike or thought is sucked. It seems that this movie more than most is a polarizing. I've known several people react almost violently to the thought of watching it. When it was in theaters I had two friends walk out before the opening credits. Just last night we were watching it at work on our lunch break, three of us laughing and one guy very agitated swearing repeatadly. What gives, think its stupid all you want, I see that but is it that bad.
One reason is how it was marketed... people wanted to see Gopher-Chucks and Cows doing piledrivers, they didnt expect such an absurd and random comedy based on voice-overs of an old movie.
edit: I just saw the trailer again to reming myself and wow..the trailer makes the movie look terrible! baby fighting, stupid tongue, one boob chick, cow, punching a hole in a stomach...TERRIBLE!! The worst parts of the movie!! Not even one line from Master Betty!
So basically, the people with the sense of humor that liked the trailer did not like the actual movie...and many of the people with the sense of humor that would like Kung Pow might never know it exists
You right. I saw the trailer and was expecting something funny when I went to see it at the theater and was very disappointed. I've noticed that a lot of trailers only show the most interesting parts of movies and that if you've seen the trailer, you've seen all the funny/good parts of the movie and don't have to waste your time with a 115 minutes of filler.
yeah i have to agree about the trailer misrepresenting the movie.
I avoided this movie for al ong time because the trailer made it look so painfully bad. Gopher chucks, the cow fight, etc were hands-down the weakest parts of the movie.
The gopher chucks were ok, but the cow fight was sooooo unfunny.
Everything thats funny about the movie, is not what you would have expected when seeing the trailer.
When i saw this movie i was so blown away about how funny it was. I also noticed that people avoided watching it because they were so convinced it wasnt going to be funny.
Its funny because anyone who saw the movie because the trailer made them laugh, wouldnt have liked the movie, but those who never did see the trailer and randomly watched the movie, are much more likely to like the movie.
Seriously whoever made the trailer for Kung Pow basically ruined any chance this movie had at being popular and profitable. Whoever made the trailer should be ashamed and should constantly be appologizing to steve.
We know that steve did not make the trailer. His sense of humour would not have allowed such a weak summarization of the movie.
Glad I never saw the trailer before seeing it then. I just saw it in a video library. Read the description on the back and got it. Instantly became one of my favourite comedies.
i would be that one guy. it all depends on a person type of humor. i've never walked out of a movie before but believe me i came very very close to walking out. i didn't laugh not once. i just keep thinking how badly i wanted to walk out.
The only thing I remember being even mildy funny was the cow skipping on one hoof to do kung fu and that's only funny when you see it one time. I came out of the theater feeling cheated and disappointed. I can't believe they did a sequel.
Walking out of movies.. is that something of a status thing to do in the US? I see you whiny bastards doing it all over these boards. wawawa I walked out before the commercials started, I dont have a real sense of humour so i walked out, i had shoes on so i walked out... ffs people

I personally don't understand the concept of walking out after having paid $10 to go in. Same prinicipal behind talking on the phone, texting, using it as a "playroom" for a date, takling with friends, etc. People seem to have lost the concept of actually appreciating what they paid for.
I have never and will never just walk out of a movie.
The only people I've ever seen walk out of a movie were...
-A mother walked out of a horror movie I saw, leaving her teenaged daughter behind to finish it, but she left literally five minutes before it ended, so it was kinda silly.
-And I've seen a LOT of teenagers walk out, while whining about how the movie sucked, even though they were NEVER paying attention to it, and spent the whole time talking on their phones and texting. Happens at least a few times a year. Kids walk in, chatting and texting and giggling like maniacs, they continue for about a half hour, never once looking at the screen, one of them says "What's going on?" Another says "I don't know!" And a third will say "This sucks, it makes no sense!" (Duh! You haven't been paying attention!) and they leave, having to be very vocal about how badly it "sucks" as they walk out.
And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Why I hate this movie isn't just the absurd amounts of crude, lowbrow "humor". It's that they try to take something, jam it down your throats as something that we're supposed to find funny, then it tries to stretch it for another ten minutes. Sorry, but if I found something stupid the first time, it's just as stupid the third of fourth time.
Yeah, those people don't really understand that it is them doing the sucking. If you can't even finish one movie you didn't like while you PAID WITH YOUR MONEY FOR IT IN THEATER then I can't really take your opinion seriously, those people are so dumb.
Sometimes it's because they go to see another movie. In their big cinemaplexes it's possible to go watch another movie without paying for it. I don't live there, but I have relatives who do, and they do it all the time.
This is the only movie I've ever scored as 1 out of 10. Out of hundreds of movies, this is the absolutely only one. It is the benchmark of hat a bad movie is.
You people act as such movie experts and i'd figure you know not to take a trailer so seriously. They are never what the movie is about. Also, i loved this movie. Grow a sense of humor you zombies.

When it was in theaters I had two friends walk out before the opening credits. Just last night we were watching it at work on our lunch break, three of us laughing and one guy very agitated swearing repeatadly. >>> Well, people walk out of movies they don't like all of the time, so why are you treating that as if it is "violent". As for the person at work, maybe it just gets on his nerves that he is forced to spend his break time being subjected to garbage??
A friend showed me the film and I was hugely let down by it. I thought it pure trash and wondered why someone would give the no-talent hack money to release this junk. Oh well, I laughed a few times and faked a lot more. I don't like to crap on my friend's films when he wants to show me something he likes, you know? I can suck it up and deal with it, but I still hated the movie quite a bit. It was a great idea to take old films and edit them into a funny parody. The problem? They forget to be clever or to come up with anything that was actually funny. What wasted potential. Whatever happened to clever comedy that where the cast and writers actually tried to deliver the goods. Now, all you people need are a few farts and a tit to think it's the best comedy ever. Why don't you take a dump in a toilet and then sit there and look at it? I mean, isn't that what's supposed to be funny these days? Low standards of quality, I must say.
Because a lot of people don't have a sense of humor. >>> People have a sense of humor, they just expect the product they pay for to actually deliver the goods. Just because you think utter garbage is funny doesn't equate to the rest of us not having a sense of humor.
- - - - - - - Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
People do walk out of movies they don't like all the time, but the reaction when my friends left Kung Pow seemed much stronger than the other movies they walked out of. Violent just describes that they didn't just walk out of the movie, they walked out ready to riot. We only paid a dollar or two to see it and they left to see The New Guy (a movie they had already seen) if I remember correctly. The New Guy isn't exactly a cinematic masterpiece, need I remind you. If it's more your style of humor thats cool. Live and let live.
You ask whatever happened to clever comedy and say "all you people need are a few farts and a tit to think it's the best comedy ever". Well that's a criticism that could be leveled at a number of movies. So again why a lot more hate for Kung Pow. It was what it is, a stupid comedy made to distract you for 90 minutes. Very appealing to my sense of humor but again I see why you may not like it.
