The brand on the box is "Buckeye" cigarettes, but I don't think they are a real brand... I can't find any info on them anywhere.

I noticed in an earlier response in this thread that you mention that the casino footage was actually shot in the Riviera.

This is in fact true, however the footage of them on the roof and taking off in the helicopter is definitely NOT the Riviera. It is a hotel on the south end of the strip (Riviera is on the north end)..

Do you know which hotel they are on top of?

dude youre wrong
murphy wasnt son of elvis
i think he cheated his way in dna test and the cheating had got something to do with michaels dna sample and murphy knew michael before helping him in prison!common murphy and helping??
and yes i think michael is the son of elvis
--------
-Have you found Jesus yet,Gump?
-I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir.

reply

Murphy helped mike because murphy saw him as an oppurtunity. He knew he got busted for a robbery, and he was looking for some guys to do the casino job. This is the first time they met. (The DNA test was after they got out of jail)

Of course, you do present an interesting theory. However, in the first prequel movie, Murphy is seen at graceland for elvis's funeral... he truly thinks he is Elvis's son.

Murph: "Send me a sign, just to be sure."

If he truly believed he the was his son than he wouldn't have cheated. If he cheated then he wouldn't have truly believed that he was the son.

Murph: "Do you reconize me now? Because, I reconize you"

Either way, I do not believe he cheated.

Steve Jackson is both... because gaffer and lighting specialist is same thing.

Why do you think murph kills Gus and Michael when they go to bury Hanson? Was it for the money? And also what do you think of David Arquette in this movie,it's not very usual to see him play a gangster, but he does a great job and its too bad he dies early on in the movie. I think he has the best line in the movie, "Hey Murph, how we gonna split the money now?"

reply

I think Murph realizes that sooner or later greed will take over each of them, and if he doens't kill them now then one of them would do the same thing he did. Also, with the 3.2 million and the 2.2 million from the launderer, that's 5.5 million all for himself... so I guess it was partially for the money.
As for the money being traced, he could have easily taken it to a bank in another country.

David Arquette is pretty good in this movie, in fact this is probabaly one of his best roles in a movie along with his role in Ready 2 Rumble.
His character is a loudmouth, but also crimnally dangerous, unintelligent character.

My favorite line in the movie probably is:
Cybil Waingrow: This looks Beautiful.
Murphy: It's one of my favorite pieces.
Cybil Waingrow: Yeah. Where's it from?
Murphy: [whispers] Out my ass.
Cybil Waingrow: Excuse me.
Murphy: It's an African piece.

reply

michael happened to be wearing his vest again so he sruvived the gunshot. Cybil and Jesse are the only ones who know he's alive, so he's essentially dead to the world. The scene cuts back to Mike, Cybil, and Jesse on his boat. Apparently michael used the money to pay off his boat debts.

Murphy died.

reply

Not strictly a question about this movie, but it is related...

I recognise this film as being flawed in many ways (from a purist angle anyway) but, like you, I really really like it and inflict it on all my friends.
I think its the fact its heavily stylised, fast moving, features losts of strong music, doesn't censor content (nudity and violence) and its got a great cast (I hated Costner before I saw this film), and its not particularly mainstream.

I also like 11:14, Lucky Number Slevin, Who is Cletis Tout, Final Cut, Grosse Point Blank, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Plunkett & Macleane, and most things Tarantino/Rodriguez

Given the above, my question is...

What other films would you recommend that have the same appeal as this one, that you think I may also like?

reply

Additional movies that I like, but are somwhat similar to 3kmtg are:

Face/off: (nick cage, john travolta) a cop and a crimelord switch identities and battle. Nick Cage's character in beginning is a lot like murphy. Then the bad-guy character is shifted to john Travolta who also does a great job.

Blood Diamond: (leonardo dicaprio) a smuggler, freed slave, and reporter all come together in an excellent story about trying to find the diamond and the slave's family. May not sound like 3kmtg, but it is a great movie.

Knockaround Guys: (barry pepper, seth green, vin diesel) 4 guys related to the mafia want to prove to the family that they can take care of business. During their mission, they lose over a million dollars of money in a small hick-town, and they have to get it back before the family finds out, and the greedy sheriff takes it

Jack of Hearts: (nobody really special in this movie lol) somewhat noir style of a cop in Vegas

Desert Heat (jean claude va damme) van damme movie so it has a lot of fighting, but good one nonetheless. the bad guy(s) make the movie better

and Revenge (kevin costner, madeline stowe, anthony quinn)also with kevin costner. 1st half is romance, 2nd half is all about him trying to get the girl back, so it's pretty good

I've only sen a few movies on your list... haven't seen lucky number slevin yet though- is it good?

More characters in the beginning makes more potential for a developed story line. As the movie progressed, there were less characters. I suppose when there is nothing but a good guy and a bad guy, you know the good guy will come out on top most the time.
Additionally, the female was coming on to the good guy, so natrually in the end they will end up together.

It's the classic storyline code, and seldom is it broken, except in movies like SAW.

WHat is the name of the song that plays RIGHT after Murphy gives his little speech about never saying the King is down? That one is Low by Transmission OK off of the album The Sky, The Stars, and The Great Beyond.

Also hard to find, but not quite as bad. It's not on the acutal soundtrack... but If you go here: http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_fullinfomu.php/music_id=387530/masterid=538753001

you'll get some more info on where you can get it.

It's the last song on the CD. You can't find the song I Itunes, either, so that's probably the only place you'll find it. If you click on the song, you can here a clip that isn't covered by gunfire liek it is in the movie.

I'm still looking into The Vibe Experience.

Just curious.

yes, both versions were release to a group of people. As it says Costner's was more violent, and Russells was more of a romance.

By unanimous vote, Costner's won. So his is the majority of the film.... very little of Kurt Russell's was used.

No problem.

Little bit of trivia- When Kurt and Kevin were reversed, Kurt was originally going to play murphy, and kevin was gonna play mike. Is wasn't until a few weeks later that they switched them to what it is now.

Kevin was definitley the best choice to play Murphy. In fact the only other i can think of that would do such a good job is Nicolas Cage (i/e his character in Face Off) .... but I don't think Kurt could pull it off.

OK why is Slater in the movie not Slater himself but his character Murph knows Mike from prison and by the way he reacts when Woodbine is shot he cared for him David seamed like maybe he was a friend of a friend I thought that Jack might have brought him in but in the movie he knows nothing about the rest of the guys but Mike and Slater says you are the guys with the hot sheets which means that he has not been caught or this is his first big crime and since there was little put out about the movie and not a director commentary just want your opinion on it

reply

not sure if you watched the prequel, The Road to Graceland, but there is at least a little bit explained there.
lets first explain where each character met.
Murphy was already doing 12 years in a prison for a diamond heist in Arizona. He knew the ropes of the prison, and was pretty much the badass that nobody messed with, even there. by then he had the plan for the casino heist, and was looking for a "singer" for the crew.
Mike just entered the prison for other reasons. A couple guys ganged up on Mike, and Murph saw an oppurtunity. So he helped Mike out by punching out one of the guys. They then began discussing their crime lives, and eventually murphy convinced mike to join the crew.

Once murphy was out, he nedded a few other guys.
He already had his chopper man- jack was an old war friend who's life Murphy saved. Jack owed him.

Murphy states that he needs a few jailbirds ("they generaly know how to keep their mouth shut") We have to assume that hanson and slater was in prison for a time when they met murphy.

Which would make hanson have a criminal hotsheet as well... so that doesn't make sense. But hanson does have a hotsheet... if you look through 3kmtg.warnerbros.com, and enter site, choose your internet speed, and click on hansons head.

Hanson didn't even know about mike until they went and got the elvis costumes.
Hanson: Who's the fifth one for?
Murph: This one's for our singer
Hanson: jesus murph, we're already splittin the money with your buddy jack, do we really to split it another way?

Murphy then proceeds to tell hanson off.

So that's how they all met. The only logically way is that they were all in jail togethther. Frank owned the bar that they all met at, and was probably in jail for a time as well.

That's how they all knew each other. As for hanson's line, it doesn't realy make sense as he does have a crimnal hotsheet as well. (3kmtg.warnerbros.com)

Jack didn't know any of them. He never did any jail time. After murphy saves his life in Vietnam, they jack states "To the death, murph."

--------------

reply

I think there's a difference between a "rap sheet" and a "hot sheet". I always figured that Hanson must've meant that Murph and Mike were "hot" because they were still on/skipped out on probation. And I always figured Hanson had a record as well, but was off probation or had nothing recent enough to draw attention.

You never have trouble parking when you drive a forklift...

reply

May have been answered, I didn't read the whole thread...

Why did the broad leave her son with Michael? Did she just decide to ditch the kid? I didn't really understand the whole "I didn't leave him with a stranger, I left him with you." bit.

reply

She left the kid with Mike because that was the easiest way to get the money for herself. It would have been a lot harder to try to sneak away from Mike with the kid AND get the password out of his wallet...
Cybil has two parts to her... part of her wants to settle down with a calm family setting... but the other part is always looking for scams and cons....

As for the whole "not a stranger, but you" bit, Cybil was head-over-heels in love with Mike, even when she did all that.... so she did not consider him a stranger. When mike said "you left your kid with a stranger", it was a shot to her, because she was hoping that Mike felt the same way about her as she did to him.

Hope that helps.

--------------
You never have trouble parking when you drive a forklift...

reply

So she was basically leaving the kid forever when she decided to take the money? If so, why did she get upset later, when she had the money, but Kevin Costner had her kid. Why not just take the money and run then?

reply

good question... but she knew that they'd meet up again. The reason she did that is that she not only took the laundered money but a lot of the original Riviera money as well.

Mike: "There's more money here than we took, a lot more."
Cybil: "I got two people to support here and you made it perfectly clear that that was never gonna change!"

She figured the only way she was going to get her hands on any of the money was to do what she did.
She didn't mind, because she saw the good in mike, and realized that Jesse was in no real danger.

It wasn't until Jesse was held my Murphy, the "psychopathic killer" of the movie, that she realized the money wasn't worth her love for jesse.

Some people just aren't fans of the stylized "music video" style film style. Others think the actors sucked, which I disagree. Some people hate kevin Costner (especially after waterworld... which i liked) and his overacting style.

As for demian lichenstein, the last film he produced was called "Venus and vegas" which is apparently a lot like martin lawrence flicks, seeing as there is 3 on the reccomendations. He is not currently involved with anything else.

It's on a website: 3kmtg.warnerbros.com If you go to Animations, then there is a prequel, shown in 3 parts.

Who was the chick who interviewed the Elvis lookalikes and during the shootout?

Susse Budde

Who was the security garud that Michael hits with the rifle when the elevator opens (he looks like the director or producer of 300 i think).

He's uncredited, so it's unknown. But as far as i can see, nobody from 3000 miles to graceland is affiliated with 300 whatsoever...

It's actually the Riviera Hotel itself in Las Vegas. They shot that part of the film in the actual building.
