In the end he beats Cyrus down then holds a gun to his head but it never shows if he killed him or left him there. You hear what sounds like a faint gun shot but I've only seen the movie twice and it's been a few years so I dont really remember. Does anyopne here know if he killed Cyrus?
Because of the editing style they used, its difficult to tell.
But, right before they cut away, there is a relatively long shot of Mickey staring lifelessly at the sky. It is definitely the expression of a dead man.
I think Carter just beat him to death. That's what he did in the original movie - only swap his pistol with the stock of a double-barrel shotgun. In both films - you don't see the character actually dead.
Sure did, Cyrus just didnt get the big picture, and when he had to get that last verbal jab in there it was over. Carter was goin in to teach him a painful lesson and you knew it was only going to be one man leaving that room. He did not use the gun he just beat the beejeezus out of him, shut his a$$ up for good.
As I recall, Mickey's face is so messed up because he got the *beep* knocked out of him so many times in his little "boxing career". The last person I heard he beat up successfully was his now ex-wife, and that doesn't count- not for a real man anyway.

I heard he went under the knife a lot for cosmetic surgery. Maybe it was vanity or maybe it was to repair some damage. But I have seen pictures of Rourke without the makeup and it is not a pretty sight.
Oh yeah and Cyrus was D.T.A.M. - Deader Than A Mother... well you know the rest.
Well, sneaking up on a guy and beating him to death with a gun might be a good pounding..but asking the ladies to leave,no need to humiliate Carter infront of an audience and then put the hurt on him without breaking a sweat, just toying with him before putting his shades back on...If Cyrus got pounded,Carter got abused and manhandled. A so-so film but watching Mickey Rourke kick Stallones ass really makes it worth watching, beautiful.
They were both murderers, both bad men. Saw no point in rooting for Carter...how many brothers has he killed? He was the soarest of losers, didn´t exactly ask for a rematch...it´s about winning,sure...but it just makes for a villain with more balls and honor then our protagonist.
I'd say Cyrus bought it in the end. Carter might've gotten a little but woopin from Cryus in the previous scene but he should've finished him off. Cryus conveniently forgets that Carter is a mob enforcer and under estimates Carter's tenacity.
Carter would have won, given the size advantage (even tho Sly is shorter,he is actually bigger than Rourke)and the fact that he'd been beating up people for who knows how long.

What an eggheaded answer. Carter didn't sneak up on him. He confronted Cyrus and suggested he should have finished. Cyrus tries to trick him and pull off a pussywhip coldcock and then gets beaten to death. His eyes were open which means he was dead.
You are a bottomfeeding tool. So choke on your own vomit, scumbag.
