I've seen both. I didn't care for Tin Man at all (I don't know where to start, so I won't start the list). The new spin didn't work for me.

10th Kingdom had more internal logic and humor. The story was a lot more enjoyable.

i like the modern twist in tinman but i agree the 10th kingdom was funnier and they took an original idea instead of twisting an old one.
dont get me wrong i really like tinman but 10th kingdom was more fun to watch

I love both of them... why choose?

Even though they are the same sort of idea they have very different approaches. In comparison 10th Kingdom is lighter and sweeter where Tin Man twisted in a darker way but still had heart.

I just hope they go on making these series - another 10th Kingdom would be great, a Tin Man series would be fab.

Fingers crossed people!! :)

i like them both as well i just wondered what other people thought

I absolutly loved Tin Man but I must say The 10th kingdom (which I still watch like two or three times a year!)

"The 10th Kingdom" is by far better than "Tin Man". Now, when it comes to Tin Man being darker, I quite disagree. "The 10th Kingdom" deals with various dark - and sometimes every-day - issues such as lust, cannibalism, adultery, violence, child abandonment, matricide and corruption. It also features many "unhealthy" and dysfunctional and abnormal relationships, making the show's targets to be adults or at least older teenagers.

reply

spot on on most counts except i rate 10th kingdom only slightly better than tin man

Holy cr@p.. how did I miss all that... Cannibalism especially cos that turns my stomach!!!

I suppose they just did a really good job of referencing but not labouring it - or maybe I just meant physically dark given that watching The 10th Kingdom with the bright colours and settings was different in tone to Tin Man - but that makes sense given the different social situations.

i adored 10th kingdom and have been looking for ages on dvd in england but so far no luck

10th Kingdom, because it was great and Tin Man was awful vapid trash. They're not comparable to me.

Like Me, a (Wonder)falling Firefly.

i have just seen the last episode of tin man and tho i enjoyed it i found the ending too predictable

I enjoyed both (10th Kingdom more though). Tinman was really cool in a sci-fi way and I liked the sci-fi version of the Wizard of Oz and DG was pretty cool. What I liked about this is the atmosphere and the effects. The characters were pretty cool too but I think t10k trunps Tinman as far as characters are concerned.

I love the 10th because it's fairy tales and I love fairytales. I prefer the atmosphere in t10k too cause it's very diverse I wish it had revealed more of the kingdoms especially Sleeping Beauty's slubbering kindgom (it was talked about in the special features) or Red Riding Hood's kingdom (the one the sequel wants to deal with). But the characters are extremely enigmatic and sweet here. I love Tony's bumbling goofiness, Virginia's insecurity and cleverness, Wendell's development into an able leader, and who could forget Wolf he's just amazingly funny and cute and awesome.

The one I prefer is obvious: The 10th Kingdom, but my second facvorite mini series is Tinman.

Tin Man is actually what re-introduced me to The 10th Kingdom. I did enjoy Tin Man (especially Alan Cumming as Glitch...great) but it really wasn't good.

I'd seen The 10th Kingdom several times at various stages in my life (I just kept renting it every few years and every time I got something different out of it) and as I was talking about Tin Man with a friend of mine I realised just how much I loved this movie. I started talking about it and comparing the two and went right out to buy the movie a couple hours later.

I have not and will not buy Tin Man, it was enjoyable for a one time viewing, but not like this. This was magical.

reply

true, tinman was good for one viewing but the ending was a bit predictable and glitch was the only character that will stick in the memory in the future

That's be cause Alan Cumming is a magnificent actor who is unforgettable in every role he plays. (Even lame b-list squeals like Son of the Mask)

reply

I just finished watching Tin Man the other day and that prompted me to begin watching T10K again about 45 minutes ago!

reply

I didn't like Tin Man at all, from the acting to the storyline to the characters to...well, anything else really. It could have been so good but it was just not enjoyable for me. And Zooey was so badly miscast for that role, aghhh.
So yeah, definitely prefer The 10th Kingdom! It was campy, but it was extremely entertaining and well done.

I agree with mostly everyone else. I have just started watching The 10th Kindom on the new ION station here locally except bummed that it's only an hour every Friday. I loved seeing it the first time when it was on NBC and fit under the category "That is something I could of wrote". I enjoyed the whole concept and all of the parallels and inside references to the fairy tales. Tin Man I thought was very creative and really brought new life into an old story. Like "Wicked" even though they are very different everyone had seen The Wizard of Oz at least once or twice in their life so you understand and get all of the inside stuff. Good example was when DG went to the masoleum to get the emerald pendant from the Gray Gale, it didn't dawn on me until I saw it was Dorothy and DG was her descendant. Great storytelling. Both are good to watch.

10th Kingdom, it had a character who was gray, Wolf, neither black nor white. Tin Man was a bit too steampunk, and there was no character who I felt was a shade of gray. You can make an argument for Neil McDonough's character, but there was never a scene in that mini series where I seriously thought he could betray the rest of the group.

reply

I would say a few characters had grey to them. The trolls were the bad guys, but you couldn't doubt their genuine love for their culture. The Queen was a terrible mother, but it stemmed from serious psychological issues. I always tear up when she says, "my little girl, I sold my soul." Again, she was terrible, it dosn't justify her actions, but just shows how truly troubled she was as a person to begin with.

reply

10th Kingdom, definitely! I really wanted to like Tinman. I love Zooey and Alan Cumming, but this did nothing for me really. It was ok, kinda funny here and there, but I just wasn't very interested. It's been a several months since I saw it, but I still don't desire to see it again. 10th Kingdom on the other hand, I think I'll watch again tomorrow, cause I haven't seen it in... about the same length of time actually.

I think it's safe to assume that a lot on people on this thread watched Tinman in hope of it coming close to 10th Kingdom, and it's sad it couldn't deliver (imo, of course).

Now how bout Scott Cohen as Wolf vs. Alan Cumming as Glitch?

I vote Wolf all the way! He owns my heart.

reply

Don't think they could be compared using those two roles.

As Glitch, Alan Cuming never was given the opportunity to be frightening and dangerous. There was never a scene where you thought Glitch could really hurt DG or turn on everyone else, in this film he never had the opportunity to be frightening.

I love them both! I'm a huge Tin Man fan, but I absolutely LOVE the 10th Kingdom. I can't really choose between either. I think that if Tin Man could have been as long as 10K, it would have been a lot better.

Twilight Original # . . .(can't remember, lol. It was in in the 1000s, though)

reply

I have both on DVD, I haven't watched 10th Kingdom in about 7 years or so, Tin Man I watched at the time and got on DVD for Christmas as soon as it was out. I loved them both.
