That Jesse character was a horrible idea.

Season 3 was a lesson in what not to do.

Because he wasn't in on the secret, he just became such an annoyance to deal with. He just didn't fit in with their group, and that whole plotline never should have happened. I have nothing against the actor, but I ended up pretty much hating the character.

Even when they finally told him he was still an annoyance. They tried to make him a replacement for Alex or something and it failed.

The actor did a perfectly fine job so for me it wasn't ever having anything against the actor, but I just could never really make myself care all that much for the character.

reply

I kinda liked Jesse as a character. I actually felt really sorry for him in the end when he couldn't go with them.

However, I don't think it was a good idea to introduce a new main character and it certainly wasn't a good idea to make Isabel and her marriage the focus of the season.

The title of this topic sums up the whole of season 3. Plus I hated the actor's giant muppet mouth and buggy eyes.

Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

Agree 100%. Plus it was a slap in the face to Alex/Isabel fans who were still stung by Alex's death in season 2, then having to deal with his "ghost" in Season 3.

Knowing that the show was ending they should have not introduced a new character and either had Isabel stay single or pair up with Kyle, who essentially in many ways became the new "Alex" of the group

reply

I find it weird, too that they would introduced a new character if they knew the show would be ending.

reply

To me Jesse doesn't exist . Isabel got married to Alex .

reply

Yes, I will resurrect a dead thread and agree. I watched the show off and on when it was on, but just rediscovered it all these years later. I am having so much trouble with the third season, and a lot of it has to do with Jesse.

Isabel just suddenly has a new boyfriend and in a few episodes they're married. It just felt so forced. Especially after all the emphasis was put on the wedding and Isabel and Jesse trying to make the marriage work.

I'm the same. There was never Jesse. Isabel married Alex , or at least they were on and off again, I'd take that!

And I agree that Jesse and his marriage to Isabel felt very forced. And since when did Isabel have a main story line for the first chunk of season 3? I already liked the character of Isabel, but not as a main story. She was always so fronted as strong but vulnerable with only a few people. I would have liked to see her character fleshed out more in that regard. Having her married off to me kind of cheated her of a more dynamic storyline as part of the ensemble cast.

They only brought Jesse in because Katherine Heigl threw a hissyfit that she wasn't getting enough screen time and threatened to quit if they didn't pander to her. They brought him in so Isabel could have more scenes away from the other main characters. Probably why they wrote him as such a cardboard character too, so he wouldn't take any of the spotlight away from Her Royal Heigl.

I had a few friends that worked a LOT on the Roswell set as extras and they claim that was indeed a diva whilst filming. The cast would clique up Shiri/Majandra/Colin Brenda/Jason and she was usually alone. She would lay the charm on thick for cast parties to the producers and felt since she did movies before she should get higher billing...even though she wasn't the star of the show. Could be rumors but some of my friends would go to the Roswell parties that were popular during the shows original airing (that I attended also) and they were very passionate about "letting the truth out" so who knows.

Liz: I guess this is goodbye. Just tell me one thing. Do you love her?
Max: Not like I love you.

I don't hate the Jesse character or the actor but after Alex died I wish they would have had Isabel and Kyle become closer and them 2 could have ended up together. It would have been better.

Don't read this

I really liked Jesse actually. I would love to have seen Kyle find someone too but this could have happened in future seasons if the show had been renewed for a fourth season. One of the saddest things about the shows ending was that there was no happy ending for Isabelle and Jesse.
