Could we finally see a come back?

With shows like The X-Files and Full House coming back years after ending, could we finally see a come back for Roswell? If any show deserves a come back it is this one!

Nope. Never gonna happen

I could concieve a remake, but not a comeback. It would never happen. Half the cast hated being on Roswell by the end, and have publicaly slated it in the years since. The other half, well, it's been 16 years. Think how much your life has changed in 16 years, would you go back to a job you had that long ago? The cast aren't the same people now that they were back then, they have spouses, kids of their own, they couldn't play the characters the same way because they're in a completely different headspace, even if there was a time jump in the storyline. Plus for some of them, it would be considered a massive career step back.

Unfortunately I think a remake is highly unlikely too. Roswell was made prior to the technological revolution and a lot of the old storylines wouldn't work these days because of that. The show makers would be targeting an audience of young people who would just be sat there thinking: 'If someone's missing why don't they just check his Twitter?' 'If Maria's stranded by the side of the road why doesn't she just call the AA'? 'Why did they all have to drive out to the quarry for a meeting when they could've just used Facebook?' 'Why did Michael spend weeks drawing that symbol when he could've just Googled it?' 'If Max misses Liz at boarding school why don't they just Skype?' They had cellphones in Roswell but they were rudimentary, lost reception all the time and I don't think they ever even texted. The only computer we ever see is a bulky old desktop and we see them using payphones multiple times! A lot of new ideas would have to be thought up to give new excuses for dramatic tension, it would be a whole re-write and that's costly from a manpower and copyright/legal perspective.

Plus, Stephanie Meyer stole so much of the plot and characters from seasons 1 and 2 that any remake would make her theft come full circle and people would think Roswell was ripping off Twilight!!

The mirror... it's broken.
Yes, I know. I like it that way. Makes me look the way I feel.

I understand what you are saying but don't forget that these characters are all on the run. Modern technology can all be tracked. I don't think they are going to have mobile phone contracts and AA cover when they are trying to stay off the radar.

Shiri has recently stated that she would love to play Liz again. Majandra stated at the reunion last year that when she looks back on Roswell now she realises that the writing was A grade material and she was frustrated when she went on to do other projects as she realised the writing was not so good. Brendan stated in a recent interview that he did not realise how lucky he was to be on Roswell at the time. I know that Katherine would not be interested in a comeback but I have never heard of Jason or Nick slagging off the show. As much as I loved Katherine playing Isabel her character could easily be recast.

I love all the actors on this show but (with the exception of Katherine) none of their careers have gone so far that returning to Roswell would be considered a step back in their careers.

I disagree with what this guy is talking about. Shows evolve ya know to stay with the times. Regardless the show is essentially alien hybrids and their human friends. Why cant that work?

A show like Roswell would thrive if it was made in 2010. Look at these mytho shows of supernatual topping charts. Vampire diaries comes to mind. Love stories with scifi drama works nowadays maybe more than it did in 2000

I don't want a comeback, this show was perfect the way it was. :)

The show could barely get renewed during its airtime, I wonder if there is any reason to bring it back today..

I would love to see Netflix reboot the series. Cameos by the original cast would be wonderful. Wishful thinking!

reply

Nope. Definitely not going to happen. The actors have all moved on by now and although Roswell does have a cult following, the other two shows you mentioned are far more popular. There's more potential for success in The X-Files return and the Full House spin-off because the majority of the world has heard of/watched those shows. Unfortunately, that's not the case with Roswell. It struggled to stay afloat for just three seasons before it got cancelled. The CW also recently attempted to revisit the sci-fi romance genre with "Star-Crossed" and that show got cancelled after 13 episodes. There's more cons than pros to resurrecting Roswell. It's best to leave the show what it was.

I know I'm a vampire, Snookie.

Since you mad this thread, they did a remake from around 2019-2022 or so

They should have just gone the X files route and rebooted it with the original cast. That 2019 remake was a god awful woke sappy soap opera. I couldn't get past the first season it was so bad.
