Hawk on the moon = Extremely disturbing?

Am I the only one who found the final shot of Hawk's body on the moon, accompanied by Frank Sinatra, to be so very, extremely disturbing? I mean, I get what the filmaker was trying to do, and I suppose its a fitting end. But I can't help thinking about him, stuck up there, slowly suffocating. The whole way it was put together just strikes me as morbid.

know what you mean - I always thought it was more something for the kids? where "he got to chill out in the end"?

the whole thing seems to be more of a kids film to me (even with retired ish people). it's called space cowboys

The scene was ridiculous to anyone who had taken high school physics. Hawk aimed for the moon but had no way to slow down after TLI. This means he most likely impacted at >5000 mph into the lunar surface.

In the final scene Corvin tells Barbara that he thinks Hawk made it to the moon. The high speed impact would register on the lunar seismometers, so there would be no question at all if he made it.

Hawk would not have to slowly suffocate. As his oxygen ran out, he could depressurize his suit and simply pass out without any pain or distress. James Lovell discussed this in his book "Lost Moon", upon which the film Apollo 13 was based.
