blair witch project (1999) or texas chain saw massacre (1974)

which is the better or scarier horror movie ?

texas chain saw massacre

Love both but Blair Witch Project is scarier.

Both movies made fantastic use of minuscule budgets and created very unnerving atmospheres, but I think TCM was the better, scarier film. That dinner table scene is still genuinely terrifying.

TCM and I will physically fight any dissenters.

Some truly inspired brilliance on a low budget. The “under the bench” shot is considered one of the best shots of all time. Genuine creepiness from the very beginning. So creative.

BWP was neat but mostly a gimmick.

One of the easiest choices ever: Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It’s like picking between a Porterhouse Steak and a 10 cent burnt chicken wing in a backwoods dive bar that you wouldn’t go to unless you were completely hammered, and forced to go to.

reply

Both are so different. One film is in-your-face horror (TCM), the other allows your imagination to fill in whatever lurks in the darkness (BW) -- always a terrifying exercise.

I'll call it a draw.

reply

Yes. The same way I feel about these movies.

reply

This can't be serious. The Blair Witch Project isn't even scary. How in the world could it possibly compete with Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

reply

Agree 100%

reply

There's no comparison. TCM hands down.
