reply

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with a lot of your choices here. It's not that I think they're good movies, but because they're such awful drek that you just have to see them.

I've seen most of the movies you've listed here and will also say that I own about half of them although I'm still looking for cut-rate copies of "Son of the Mask", "Master of Disguise" and "Bloodrayne". For all the terrible these movies contain, they still have a certain putrid charm that must be seen to be believed.

I agree, Plan 9 From Outer Space was too good compared to the rest of these. Why, Plan 9 got 4/10 from me, because it was at least somewhat entertaining despite being awful. The following fifty movies are unentertaining (or worse) AND bad:

101) 8 Mile
102) Anger Management
103) Babe: Pig in the City
104) BEN AND ARTHUR
105) Beowulf
106) Caddyshack II
107) City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold
108) Crank
109) Delta Farce
110) Dracula: Dead and Loving It
111) Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
112) Garfield
113) Ghost Dad
114) GODSEND
115) G.I. Jane
116) I, Robot
117) Johnny Mnemonic
118) Kuffs
119) Lakeview Terrace
120) Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector
121) Lawnmower Man 2: Beyond Cyberspace
122) LITTLE MAN
123) Mannequin 2: On the Move
124) Mazes and Monsters
125) Ninja Cheerleaders
126) Pearl Harbor
127) Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow
128) Poltergeist III
129) PRIVATE BENJAMIN
130) RICHIE RICH
131) Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed
132) Shrek 2
133) Shriek if you Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th
134) Signs
135) Southland Tales
136) Spy Hard
137) Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
138) S. Darko
139) The Good Son
140) The Skulls 3
141) The Transformers: The Movie (1986)
142) The Tuxedo
143) Toys
144) Transporter 2
145) Vampire in Brooklyn
146) Waxwork 2: Lost in Time
147) White Chicks
148) Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies
149) Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell
150) Year of the Dog

Man wishmaster 2 has that scene where the guy tells the lawyer "go fu.. yourself" and he actualy does... you can't have it on your list, it's worth watching just for that

OK. Then replace it with Air Bud: Golden Receiver.

Wow. How did I miss Robocop 3? It's one of the "sickening six" that I gave a 1/10 rating to. Terrible, TERRIBLE film!

On the other hand, I kinda liked The Happening. It was patently ridiculous, but it was meant to be. And there was something inherently satisfying about watching John Leguisamo's character prepare to kill himself.

reply

[deleted]

The other five movies are Disaster Movie, Little Man, Monster a-Go Go, Godsend and AI: Artificial Intelligence.

reply

[deleted]

I agree about removing "Expelled". It was pretty well done, but controversial. Also, it was a documentary, not a movie.

Man, now I'm curious about most of these movies!

You have several good movies on this list. Your taste is suspect.

reply

From that list I have seen :

Batman & Robin
Battlefield Earth
Date Movie
Epic Movie
Highlander II
In the Name of the King : A Dungeon Siege Tale
The Love Guru
Meet the Spartans
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
The Village
Zodiac

I thought Zodiac was very good!(or was it a different Zodiac?)
Higlander II had its moments
I had a blast watching Dungeon Siege.
You forgot Doom

Someone should add "The Apple" to this list. Or not, since it's so bad it's fascinating. What other film would show the "future" of 1994 as being a place where disco queens ruled the world and forced people to put triangles on their heads and dance? What other film would show a man in gold underwear dancing with people in cheap Party City costumes and telling a chick to eat a volleyball? And what other film would show God taking the hippies away in his flying Rolls Royce?

I also respectfully nominate Rhinestone, since Sly singing country causes me pain.

39. Heaven's Gate

Heaven's gate was an expensive flop and most of the critics who bad mouthed it later changed their minds. In fact, most of the bad reviews were not about the quality of the movie but about the excess of hollywood and a backlash to the new management at UA after Arthur Krim left and started Orion pictures. Most of these critics also went back when Heaven's Gate came out and decided to change their reviews for The Deer Hunter calling that a horrible film.

The Deer Hunter survived because its initial response was positive. Heaven's Gate didn't because people only remember their first impressions of the film(which barely got any theater play due to the scathing reviews). Both films also rewrote history which got a lot of attention at time.

It is far from a bad movie and you are mistaken to place it in this list. It's a pretentious and excessive piece of cinema, but its still good and enjoyable to any person who appreciates art house films. Its period detail, cinematography, and musical score are exceptional.

And most of the performances are great in it, especially with that cast: Christopher Walken, Kris Kristofferson, Isabella Huppert, John Hurt, Sam Waterston, Willem Dafoe(his first film), Brad Dourif, Joseph Cotton, Jeff Bridges, Mickey Rourke, etc.

The movie is notorious for ruining Cimino's career(he never recovered) and bankrupting United Artist(which isn't true actually. UA was owned by Transamerica which was prosperous enough to write off the budget. The company was sold because MGM offered them a great price, Despite a few hits like Raging Bull, the Bond Film, and That years ROCKY film, none of their movies made profit and UA was down effecting the Transamerica Stock. While Heaven's Gate publicity for being a flop didn't help the company, its not possible it bankrupted it).

If you're just an average film goer, i probably wouldn't recommend the film. If you are a cinema Lover, Heaven's Gate should be on a list for movies you must see because its best qualities rise above its faults.

And also since 30 years as passed, people now are more likely to judge the film itself and not how the press it received.

I know The Village sucks, but it has an exceptionally amazing music score. =P

> 21. Caligula

The first time I saw this film, I nearly threw up, and stopped watching halfway through. Then I read about him in some history books and re-watched it. Knowing the history really helped me appreciate how good this film really was.

reply

I always liked Caligula.

reply

alien resurrection????? Sure isn't the best of the Alien Quadrilogy, but it has some cool effects and sure beats the avps.

186. Contact (the worst film ever made)

You can't be talking about the Zemeckis/Foster movie, can you?

"This yoghurt tastes funny......"
"It's mayonaise"

reply

Yep.

An absolute stinking turd.

It was vaguely interesting and then, when it gets to the end.... the aliens look like us. What an utter cop-out. The director and/or writer should be put up against a wall and shot for such shocking laziness.

reply

Oh, I guess everyone can't like it.

But regarding that cop out, the point of the movie at the end was for there to be some doubt as to whether it actually happened or not. That's why the alien appeared as her father, to instill doubt. Not so much a cop out. It was a vital part of the narrative.

But I get what you're saying you wanted aliens and you didn't get any. That's cool.

I'm a modest man, but then I have much to be modest about.

Drummond 39,

I'm confused (very).

You do realise you posted that list of films in a thread entitled "1001 Movies You Must Avoid Until You Die"?

It seems to me that you posted a list of films that you should see before you die, as they all appear to be classics (apart from Children of Men, which is a turd).

reply

what?

the good burger movie is hilarious
granted, it's never going to win awards but that movie showcases everything that was funny about kenan and kel

reply

You have exceptionally poor taste.

reply

Plan 9 is like Citizen Kane next to these movies. Oh if only Ed Wood had lived long enough to see things like Battlefield Earth being considered much worse than his movies.

reply

My choices:

Independence Day Resurgence
Man With The Golden gun
Live And Let Die
The Seventh Son
10,000 BC
Men In Black III
Gone With The Wind
Never Say Never Again
Basic Instinct
Starship Troopers
Sliver
Mitchell
Point Blank (2015)
Mission Impossible 2
This Island Earth
Alexander
JFK
Dragon Blade
Sharknado
Showgirls
The Brain That Wouldn't Die
Twilight (ALL of them)
Sex And The City

That's it for now

reply

You need to see more movies if you think all of these deserve to be considered the worst.

reply

Perhaps I do. When I remember other films that I have seen and hated, I'll be back
