The best film I've ever watched

I've never watched a film so moving yet so subtle. The acting was amazing and so was the simple yet very deep story.

Yes indeed, I couldn't agree with you more. The acting by the old man playing Alvin was superb.

You probably haven't seen The Mighty Ducks. And if you have... see it again.

reply

100% agree.... the acting by Richard Farnsworth, coupled with Angelo Badalamenti's genius soundtrack is pure brilliance.

reply

I honour you!

That's a very special and nice taste you have and show.

This seems to be the forgotten Lynch film. I wish more people were familiar with it. Too bad, it's wonderful.

I just started building my Lynch DVD collection recently and stumbled across this movie and watched it last night. I'm originally from NW Iowa and grew up 20 miles from Laurens and never heard of this film till recently. My opinion could be biased, but nonetheless, this movie floored me. Richard Farnsworth was the perfect fit for his role. The dialogue in this movie was spot on I think, uncomfortable silences are part of life and Lynch knows this. Not many words, just the right ones at the right time. The pace of the movie couldnt be anymore descriptive of, not just Straight's life but life in general for people in the rural midwest. I live on the west coast now and this movie took me back to the simple/modest life of home for two hours.

You're right. Straight Story is one of my all-time favourites.

Beautiful film. I have only seen it once, and don't think I want to see it again, as it utterly broke my heart. The soundtrack CD makes my hair stand on end, as it is so evocative, so gentle and so deep. I have often considered watching the DVD again, but have never been brave enough.

OP - and everyone else for that matter. . .

I hope you have also seen Lynch's "The Elephant Man," also a deeply moving and beautiful portrayal of the human spirit. Both films are simple in story but gargantuous in heart.

Is gargantuous a word? :)

reply

yes jayt_26 because Elle Driver used it in Kill Bill

Saw it for the first time last night...the 2 hours flew past. We should all be so lucky to have met someone like Alvin.

Wonderful film...will be buying this one.
