Did any guy tear up during this film?

I did.

I did fairly regularly. There were a lot of quiet scenes that really struck a chord with me. I loved the way that certain meanings were beautifully conveyed without having to spell it all out. One of my favorite parts was when the hitchhiker left a bundle by the campfire. It said everything that needed to be said, and it was so well done. Many more scenes too really got to me. It was a movie with a lot of heart.

The movie is beautiful and Farnsworth was amazing in it. I allowed myself to tear up, quite a few times.

Mmm, no. It's a well made movie, but it left me emotionally empty. Was more interested in weirder Lynch moments, like that deer lady.

Definitely. The Elephant Man really didn't affect me too badly, probably because its sentimentality seemed forced. But the Straight Story just felt so natural and real. So yeah, I cried.

The Straight Story is an effective character study. It came together perfectly in the final scene.

I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
