I have a rather large movie collection. So every night, I fall asleep to a movie. I put The Limey on last night. I have not watched it in a couple of years. My wife asked a few questions about it, one about the editing.
I told her that in my opinion, The Limey was a masterpiece of editing. The cuts, overlapping dialogue, and absence of dialogue create and sustain an atmosphere of mixed emotions and dreamlike quality. Like an earlier posted stated: like the re-telling of a memory.
Everyone has different views and opinions regarding films. If you don't like this movie that is your choice. But from a filmmaking perspective, the editing of The Limey is certainly unique and successful.
Terence Stamp is magnetic as Wilson. I recall a review of The Limey that stated Stamp's delivery was like verbal jazz. It mirrors the editing.
If the story and performances were lacking, then I could see how the editing would be a distraction.
