JP3 is Better than Lost World
LW and this have several issues but I think JP3 is better. LW is way too long also.

shareI'll take LW easily. It was also a clear homage (at the end) to the original lost world where a brachiosaurus gets loose in New York (I believe it was New York).
LW just had better and more believable acting as well. Jeff Goldblum and Juliane Moore are FAR better options than Tea Leoni and the guy from Face/Off.
JP3 also doesn't have that laughable San Diego scene.

Lost World is better, but not by much.
Lost World had an interesting premise but it wasn't executed that well - The villain was too paper thin and as great an actor as Arliss Howard normally is he just seems to be pretty bored in the role and acts like a Roger Moore era Bond villain. Pete Postlethwaite's character was a cool addition, like a far more upgraded version of Robert Muldoon from the first movie, but they drop him as soon a they leave the island (lame) and they cut his introduction from the movie ( again, lame). The first act is pretty bumpy and the climax is too rushed, but Spielberg in the director's chair does add to the film's quality and leads to having a better pace to go with the story, not too mention actual buildup to the dinosaurs.
JP3 doesn't really have much of an interesting story, it feels like fan-fiction with a bunch of cheap plot devices to bring Dr. Alan Grant back into the picture. There is literally no buildup to the dinosaurs' appearances, especially with the T-Rex, and no point to make about them and their future. There's also some very unintentionally silly moments that surprise me made it into the theatrical version, like Grant's raptor dream on the plane(WTF was that?). Doesn't help that most of the supporting cast are pretty annoying, I normally like Tea Leoni and William H. Macy but in this I just wanted them out of the picture as much as possible. The only characters I actually were interested in were Billy and Eric, their interactions with Grant weren't bad and kept my interest a little.
It's funny, when I first came to these boards way beack when, I was the only one favoring JP3 over TLW.
In fact I was downright hounded for it.
Now several years later, I see it's almost a landslide in the other direction. Even people who don't like JP3 still say it's more fun. From podcasts to forums to reviews.
I can only hope people wise up and the same thing happens with the Scream franchise. You never know.
"See it with someone you love...Go by yourself"
JP 3 honestly feels like a big budget straight to dvd movie. Even when I was like 13, I thought it was lame.
shareI agree. Jurassic Park III is simply a more enjoyable experience than Jurassic Park: The Lost World.

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .
I agree with people that compare this to a ScyFy original movie or a straight to video production. At least Lost World has a sense of ambition. It had a message and had a story with some potential. JPIII is more pointless and less interesting than some of the stories they came up with for the Jurassic Park video games. The Lost World's direction is better, the effects are better, and the characters are more interesting. And while TLW does have idiotic moments, JPIII feels almost like a parody of the entire franchise.
