i really miss this type of south park

i know people hate it when you complain about how much a tv series has changed, because it is annoying, tv series have to change if they want to survive. i get it.
but i saw this movie the other day after not seeing it for a few years and it made me super nostalgic for the way south park used to be.

While TV shows 'have' to change. They don't 'have' to change for the worst....which SP definetly has.

It's a shame Matt & Trey either do not see the decline or just do not care.
SP was once a well written show with clever satire and had something to say...now it's a badly written parody show with cheap gags and the most basic celeb bashng.

Still atleast we still have this slice of cinematic genius to remind us of what used to be.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he is God.

bear in mind, most of Matt and Trey's work has been put toward The Book of Mormon for the past few years. It's the same scenario as back in 1999; the tv show suffered while the movie was consciously being worked on.

reply

In addition, the episodes used to be made in MORE than 6 days. The new, 6-day format seems to be a detriment.

reply

Well they don't want to work on the show anymore, but must like the money and/or want to do it for the fans. There have still bee some brilliant episodes done in a week.

reply

Thank you, this is so true and why I stopped watching it, The raising the bar episode, didnt make me laugh, except for a few cheap laughs. All the episodes now are filled in your face violence, it had it before but it was clever, and pretty much we are just seeing what we see in the news and its sad. Going downhill...fast.

Complaining about the older South Park being "better" does get annoying and to a certain extent, old - to many people. But, South Park seasons 1-3 (along with the film) were my favorite type of humor, and the way they handled the "crappy" animation was great. Not to mention that I miss Cartman's old voice. And what 'bout the songs? They use to be 2-4 mins long, or only a few seconds, and they were epic! There hasn't been a nice original song used in SP in the previous seasons for a while; at least not memorable.

I still love South Park and I'm always excited for new episodes, but I prefer the first 6 seasons of South Park over the rest. I do love season 7, and 10 - 8 and 9 had moments but disappointing. I think with season 12, it's when the show became less interesting. Also, my preference for the older seasons isn't because of nostalgia... I just prefer the old seasons more. I still have faith in Trey & Matt though.

reply

i think it has something to do with them writing an episode in a week now as opposed to making a season in 6 or 7 months

reply

I miss it too. I don't think either is better or worse. They're just different, and each have their pros and cons. I think its peak was around Seasons 4 and 5, and had a great spike around seasons 10 and 11.

I reckon the show still has a lot of years left in it.

reply

While South Park is different now I say from season 5 on wards have better longevity with it's satire. Being a late fan of the show and watching the early and new south Park I realized they both have their pros and cons but I prefer the later South Park (though the movie is great). I am surprised however that Trey and Matt didn't like season 1 to 3 apparently which might be a reason as to the different changes. Fans of the shows will always prefer the earlier incarnations of anything because of that nostalgic factor, me personally I like both.

reply

This movie and season 3 were definitely a golden era. It did become something different and I do miss it a bit, but the fact that I can watch it and those series over again is great, I wouldn't like them to force themselves to write the 'old style' of episode again however, as quality would again suffer.

they started at age about 28 and now they are 43.
you need to understand that the writers started young and funny and as the years past they grew up and became matured and tired.
maturity affects the script.

reply

I like new South Park but the humor is much more over the top then it used to be because of the better animation.

Eh...how does that work exactly?

The animation being better has NOTHING to do with the shift in humour style.

Well because they can make the jokes more outlandish, South Park has always been crude but know it's much more over the top because they can show more with better animation.

Still makes no sense at all.
You don't need great animation to tell a good joke.
Great writing yes.

You whole "argument" is flawed.
