More than three years after CBS passed on the Charmed reboot they were working on -which is still talked about a lot by fans all over the world- The CW has landed a prequel to the cult WB series produced by the team of critically acclaimed dramedy Jane The Virgin.
Jane The Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman, as well as producer Brad Silverman, are behind the project which will follow three witches who fight evil in a small New England town during the eighties (1976), possibly the Halliwells’ ancestors from the Warren Line, the most powerful line of witches in history introduced in the original show.
Why, oh why, do they feel they need to go back to the past? That's the question I just can't understand. Maybe they want an easy way to get around the possibilites of the witches being filmed or photographed, which in today's world would be almost impossible to avoid. Whatever the reason, I feel I can't be the only one to not be interested in the slightest by the time period. Oh well, after it crashes and burns, maybe they'll come up with another reboot 10 years down the line.
Huge mistake. The Carrie Diaries sucked. It was trying too hard to capture the essence of the original show, at one point. But failed miserably. After trying a more original approach, and failing at that too, of course. Also, a prequel? Why? The story started when the sisters were reunited, and got their powers. So if they plan on making something that's taking places in the 70s, once again, huge mistake. CW is too cheap, and young, to pull off a believable blast from the past series. Just by looking at how wrong the fashion was on TCD. Same thing goes for Freeform and how they butchered 80s style in Dead of Summer. Sorry, but I hope this will never have the greenlight.

Or drop the idea, altogether. Let the show be. Charmed belongs in late 90s/early 2000.

Figured would check this board out, have the time to right now. A pre, hmmm not sure myself esp if set in the 1970s or 1980s ??? no dont think so. I am one that did not mind the whole of the show, as in general took it for what it was, brain pablum of entertainment, some epis better than other ones.
Watched BBC Merlin, also liked it and had couple weird story ideas of relatives of the Warren line which would lead to the charmed ones. Though having a pre that far back, again not so much because would be pre Warren.
Having a pre sometime in the 1800s NOT calling the past relatives "charmed" would be the first thing as the sisters were the "talked" about charmed, but can maybe add to them coming in the future. Share stories of how and where they could practice as they learn about powers, theirs and hiding them, easier or harder to keep them safe. Not stick with the only the female s in the line but the males. Maybe some had the "witch gene" but no real powers, both sexes, though could help somehow with spells when they needed to. Having some of them have several children, as large families were of the norm, not shying away from having some of them hunted and even killed, as hard as that is to think about. Most important KEEP BRAD KERN AWAY from it. That is if it is to be done, do not think will watch if there is 19 in the front for time line.
As typed, liked the show, is one of my favs, as is Merlin, mentioned already and more, like Buffy, Angel, Supernatural, Sabrina the teenage witch, Full House, Fuller House, I Dream of Jeanie, Bewitched, Six Million Dollar Man, Bionic Woman the original one, though the newest one could have had something, Little House on the Prairie, The Listener, Alias, Ally McBeal, Chuck, Big Bang Theory, Brady Bunch, CSI s all of them, Criminal Minds all, Person of Interest, Unforgettable, Highlander...could add more, and depending on my mood. NOT REALITY CRAP
So will see bad and do not think will work if 19 something, my 4 cents
Live life to be alive...and may your day be well or find one thing that gives you that little extra, even just a 😄
I'll bet the Sabrina spin-off makes it to the air before the Charmed prequel does, killing all possibilities for a Charmed spin-off or at least until Dynamite drops the comics and another company announces their upcoming series.
We heard about a reboot with four sisters when Zenescope announced their series (Season 9 and 10) and now that Dynamite has announced their upcoming series, we hear about this prequel.
You're underestimating CBS studios. Sabrina will be a WB produced show on CW while Charmed will be a CBS produced show on the network. Do you want me to remind you of how CBS politics work on CW? It is how CBS produced shows with dreadful ratings like CEG and Jane the Virgin gets to survive on CW. Sabrina doesn't even have a pitch or a pilot script yet. Charmed does and we'll know by next week if it gets ordered to pilot. CW usually start ordering pilots at the end of January. Also Sabrina's pitch could not happen if Riverdale flops hard.
