Who should have played Norman Bates

In my opinion they should have had Zachary Quinto who plays Sylar from Heroes be Norman Bates cause he be perfect for the role. Right?

This film never should have been remade to begin with but just to play along I would say Jeremy Davies from "Lost"

"I have many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany."

I was thinking Jeremy Davies as well. Even though I'm tired of his nervous twitch/shellshocked/stuttering/sped up slightly as if on drugs performances, that would have been the right approach for Norman Bates.

Vince Vaughn is dead air. He ruins the film.

I would have cast either the actor who plays "Will" from "Will & Grace" or Seth Green.

Pointless, but Jeremy Davies would have been a better fit

Vince Vaughn was perfect for the role. He played it just as well as Anthony Perkins did, he made it his own. But I think when it comes to appearance and acting skills... James Caviezel could've made a good Norman Bates as well/ new Anthony Perkins. I also think Kevin Spacey could've pulled it off, he has played a good psycho before... even though he was a different type of psychotic individual.

johnny depp, he's got that kind of 'theres something strange about this guy' look.

One of the things that needs to be taken in consideration about who could play Norman Bates, you have to actually read the novel. In the novel, Norman wasn't a young man, he was in his 40s and a couple of times when Mother took over, especially when Marion was killed, he was drunk. And if you all know your history about the novel itself, Robert Bloch drew inspiration from Ed Gein, so it makes sense that he made Norman in his 40s. Now, I know a lot of people would disagree with it because people love the young, shy and "innocent" man that Hitchcock presented in his adaptation. But I think there should be a middle ground somewhere.

If I had to choose someone to play Norman, I would say Jim Carey would make a good Norman Bates. If you've seen "The Number 23", he portrays a dual role, one where he is a shy and nice guy, the other a dark and somewhat disturbed man. He could portray Norman in the middle ground between the original adaptation and the Norman Bates we are introduced to in the Bloch novel. He would have pulled off the "Norman", the personality who runs the motel, "Normal" the young innocent child personality and our favorite, "Norma" (aka "Mother").

TBH, if Gus Van Sant had actually did a different adaptation of the novel instead of a shot-for-shot remake of the original, I would have liked to see Olivia Hussey (who played Norma in "Psycho IV: The Beginning") play Norma again (for those who haven't read the novel, Norma is portrayed as a living and seperate person throughout most of the novel, much like Tyler Durden from "Fight Club". The first scene in the book actually has Mother walking into a room while Norman/Normal is reading a book. Another scene actually has Norman witnessing Mother attacking Arbogast with Norman's straight razor).

But this one's eating my popcorn!

Taking the concept of "Norman" from the novel, what do you think of Kevin Spacey in that role?

i think that vince vaughn was perfect for the job

NO ONE...it's Anthony Perkins' signature role, and they never should have made this horrendous piece of garbage. I've hated Vince Vaughn ever since this movie....his laugh is so bleeping annoying, and I find out he laughs about the same way in every film...I guess that's his life, but it was annoying as hell.

Ugly Anne Heche looked like one of the birds that Norman Bates stuffs...her ugly bulgey eyes and short dyke-like hair made her look like a bird, especially in the early scene when she's driving alone in the rain.

ONE OF THE WORST, MOST USELESS REMAKES EVER MADE. NEVER REMAKE A CLASSIC. THEY'RE RIDICULOUS, OVER-PRODUCED PIECES OF CRAP.
