1. Fruit Tree - Nick Drake 2. Funeral Home - Daniel Johnston 3. By this River - Brian Eno 4. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times - Beach Boys 5. Sister Ray - Velvet Underground (gots ta *beep* with the people at mah funeral)
1. Heroin - Velvet Underground 2. Too Much Junkie Business - The Heartbreakers 3. Surfin' on Heroin - The Forgotten Rebels 4. Chinese Rocks - The Heartbreakers 5. OD'd on Life - Blue Oyster Cult
Fantastic thread. Love it. There's no way I could narrow it down to just 5 songs.
To begin with I'd like if they played sad, eerie songs.
1.Joy Division — Atmosphere 2. Elliott Smith — Can't Make A Sound + Bye (Can't believe nobody have mentioned Elliott earlier) 3. The Righteous Brothers — Unchained Melody 4. The Tremeloes — Silence Is Golden 5. Austin Roberts — Rocky 6. The Flying Burrito Brothers — Wild Horses 7. Gram Parsons feat. Emmylou Harris — Love Hurts 8. Velvet Underground — I'm Set Free 9. Ben E. King — Stand By Me 10. Daniel Johnston — Some Things Last A Long Time 11. Beatles — Something 12. Johnny Thunders — You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory 13. Spacemen 3 — Walkin' With Jesus (preferably with a huge gospel choir to back up Jason ) 14. Eels — Guest list 15. Michael Jackson — Man In The Mirror
And around here I want no more tears. Good songs and finish it off with Devo — Mongoloid, important with self-distance and a good laugh in the end.
15. Arab Strap – The First Big Weekend 16. Lou Reed — Perfect Day 17. The Hollies — I'm Alive 18. The Electric Prunes — I Had Too Much To Dream 19. Pixies — I've Been Tired 20. My Bloody Valentine — Never Say Goodbye 21. Jesus & Mary Chain — Something's Wrong 22. Devo — Mongoloid
And perhaps, an encore? Whitney Houston — I Wanna Dance With Somebody
I'm afraid I can't top the capacity or the variety of the previous post, but hell I'll just give you my top 5 anyway. Also since I'm not dead and hopefully not going to die soon, this still isn't the 'definite' list.
1. Rock n' Roll Suicide- David Bowie (It's my funeral and I deserve atleast one cliche)
Grateful Dead - Box of Rain Gene Clark - Silver Raven The Beatles - In My Life George Harrison - Awaiting on You All Social Distortion - Reach for the Sky

1. Workin' On Leavin' the Livin'- Modest Mouse 2. How it Ends- DeVotchKa 3. Dead Flowers- Rolling Stones 4. Dirt in the Ground- Tom Waits 5. Monkey Gone to Heaven- The Pixies
I haven't read all of these but some of the people on this board have impeccable taste in music (particularly the person who chose IN THE FADE by QOTSA I actually thought 'bastard that should've been mine' when I read it.
Anyway I plump for
Major Leagues - Pavement Lights Out For Darker Skies - British Sea Power When I Argue I See Shapes - Idlewild Sidewalk Surfer Girl - Super Furry Animals I Get Wet - Andrew W.K.
To be honest with the exception of Major Leagues, they're not very funeraly but I'd want it to be a reflection of me rather than 'let's find a funeral song'. If that was the case there's plenty by Wilco, Nick Drake, Badly Drawn Boy, Flaming Lips, Beck or Sigur Ros that people could choose from but the idea of making everyone sing a long to I GET WET makes me laugh my head off so that's my definitive funeral song (but done as a hymn with a compulsory sing-a-long). How much s**t is there on the menu and what *beep* flavour is it?
"Exit Music (For a Film)" by Radiohead "The Needle and the Damage Done" by Neil Young "Wigwam" by Bob Dylan "Free as a Bird" by The Beatles "Time/The Great Gig in the Sky" by Pink Floyd
1. "Tuesday's Gone" - Lynyrd Skynyrd 2. "If I Ever Leave This World Alive" - Flogging Molly 3. "Tiny Dancer" - Elton John 4. "Dream On" - Aerosmith 5. "One More Cup of Coffee" - Bob Dylan
In order from starting song to final funeral song:
1. The Promise Ring - Nothing Feels Good 2. The Pixies - Where Is My Mind 3. The Smiths - Asleep 2. The Killers - All These Things That I've Done 1. Brand New - Soco Amaretto Lime
This Was Not Just A Matter Of Chance. These strange things happen all the time.
#5 - Death by White Lies #4 - Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana #3 - Moody River by Pat Boone #2 - This monkeys gone to heaven by The Pixies #1 - Where is my mind? by The Pixies.
1. "Heart and Soul" - Joy Division 2. "Me, I Disconnect From You" - Tubeway Army 3. "Prince Charming" - Adam and the Ants 4. "Lonely Planet Boy" - The New York Dolls 5. "The End" - The Doors
"Don't believe everything you hear on the radio." - Charles Foster Kane
1. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance 2. Good Riddance (Time of your life) - Green Day 3. Redemption Song - Bob Marley 4. My Happy Ending - Avril Lavigne ( It's a good song :) ) 5. 4:AM Forever - Lostprophets
I just want two songs, both by the Grateful Dead: "Brokedown Palace" ("Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul"), followed by "Truckin'".
"Sometimes you have to take the bull by the tail, and face the truth" - G. Marx
So my five, to be played in no particular order except for Songs #1 and #5:
1) Dead Man's Party (Back to School version), by Oingo Boing. I mean, come on.
2) I Don't Want to Spoil the Party, by The Beatles. To counter the cliché of Dead Man's Party, a little of the ol' wicked sense of humor.
3) Alcohol, by The Barenaked Ladies. Mass quantities will be available to be consumed in same.
4) The nicked song choice: Ave Maria, by Schubert. I prefer the version that plays at the end of Fantasia, after Night on Bald Mountain; if that can't be procured somehow, then I prefer a solo soprano voice, with more of a colortura tone. Don't care who.
5) The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, by Gordon Lightfoot. To let people know it's time to get the hell out the door and go home.
