Dr. Dre's horrible performance

Whether he's pretending to be a gangster in real life, or a "hard" crooked cop/gangster in a movie, it's guaranteed to be some of the cringiest shit you've ever seen.

Snoop Dogg on the other hand actually did a decent job.

Kind of agree.... I think he and Snoop were both just ok. Both on the same level. Not great, not horrible. I can see the cringe though.

On the other hand, out of all the cameos, I thought Macy Gray did pretty good

I don't know, man - I think Snoop was able to give a decently convincing performance: https://youtu.be/yumxwV2c1-0?t=115

He didn't stick out like a sore thumb or feel like he was reading lines in the most embarrassing way imaginable.

Unlike Dre, who just leaks out a constant stream of cringe: https://youtu.be/LP-bBV83FJM?t=47

I agree with you on Macy Gray though.

Dre was more believable than the obvious 22 year old who played a 14 year old schoolgirl.

Snoop Dogg was amazing. Especially considering his friendly stoner public persona of today. But yeah, Dre was bad.

To be fair though - the screenplay for Dr. Dre wasn’t good, so he probably didn’t have a chance to give a good performance . Example: why is he so pissed off at Jake from the very moment that he sees Jake at the roof? He acted like Jake stole his bike or something before he even knew the guy

reply

He was pissed because he was a crooked cop (that’s an understatement) and Jake being a new guy and all of a sudden appearing out of the blue for a hit/murder/burglary job jeopardized every ounce of security that Dre’s character must have felt for his crew.
You know the saying, “if you didn’t do time with us you’re not doing crime with us…..,” sort of thing.

Dr. Dre is a funny guy. He bragged about not smoking "weed or sess cause it's known to give a brother brain damage" right after leaving NWA in the song Express Yourself and then released an album called The Chronic not long after where he reinvented himself as a smoking, toking gangster. I love his music from 2001 and before but Easy E was probably closer to the truth about Dre in his Real Muthafuckin Gs diss track than the persona Dre has put out there.

He's no G and it showed when he tried to act like one in this movie.

Probably the biggest fakest studio gangster of all time who usually doesn't even write his own raps, but the end product is good so people look past it.

reply

He'll always be a producer first and a rapper second but yes I agree that he got away with a fake image more than any other famous rapper I can think of.
