I've seen it and I find it really "unnecessary" and a very silly thing...yes, is a comedy, but what a waste of time!! and then, why catherine zeta-jones is ALWAYS so fakely impeccable (and not only in this movie...)?!?! I hate that pose...

As usual, a lotta nasty comments thrown around and very little middle ground. I thought "Cruelty" was a decent-enough little diversion, ideal for boring-Sunday-afternoon viewing, yet still the most disappointing, worst Coens movie. (Until the one that followed it, that is.) Main reason?
Clooney tried his best and came off fairly well. CZJ, however, is simply a charisma-free zone. She and Clooney had zero chemistry.
Agentmonster OTM, and you don't need many brain cells to come to that realization. So we're left with a couple of leading characters that we don't care about, what else is left? A bit of sick humour and some sharp fast-paced dialogue. Which is nice to have, but when you view a Coens film you take that stuff for granted, like the way you expect to be given a plate and some utensils when you order dinner in a restaurant.
Yes, this film was terrible. I find it remarkable that Clooney's career remains on track after such brutal films as "Batman and Robin", "Intolerable Cruelty", and "Ocean's 12". In this aptly named film, subjecting viewers to the incredibly obvious plot turns, horribly one-dimensional characters, and ridiculously fabricated scenes is truly cruelty on an intolerable level.
As some posters have said, it is completely forgettable summer movie fare.

Yes, but you are undoubtedly biased. I grant you have a right to think whatever you like about this movie, but judging from your posting history, anything with George Clooney in it is going to get 10 stars from you, regardless of whether or not it was the worst dreg ever produced.

HAHAHA! Witty and well acted. Define "wit" because this movie demonstrated exactly none of that. It was incredibly predictable, formulaic, and boring. Have a look at the section called "Memorable Quotes" in IMDB (a misnomer in this case), do you see anything even remotely witty in that entire page? And believe me, that is pretty well the entire script.
Oh, and yep, found my humour cells. Phew, thought they might have fallen out, but nope, there they are! Except none of them were activated during this dreg. Frustration cells, boredom cells, crap movie cells, all of those ones were going full tilt, but humour cells? They were pulling lint out of their belly buttons.

One stupid joke follows the next. The whole movie is predictable and over-played.
A big disappointment. Would like to know what actors like Cloony and Zeta-Jones thought while shooting this crap. It was surely a "quick" movie and the money was good.
Gee - only Flight Girls with Paltrow was worse....
IF you don't like a movie you really don't have to watch it and then write 8 paragraphs here telling us why. Just get up and walk out or hit the stop button on the DVD player. A whole helluva lot of people don't like the Cohen Bros. But then again a very large group of people do. And really.....in the end it's just a friggin' movie!!!!
