I wouldn't say Hugo Weaving is ugly, but he is not really traditionally handsome
Most character actors like Weaving can be said to have "interesting" faces. Which sort of means that they have facial features that grab your attention. Keanu Reeves is obviously good looking, but it the girl said that your face more strongly resembles Weaving's then it's not really a compliment. Especially considering that both Weaving and Reeves both look pasty-faced and emotionless in this movie

Hell no. He was a bit prettier in LOTR but they made him ugly in Matrix on purpose.

Weaving is what I'd call "attractive". Not handsome, but fit, intelligent, and charming. When he wants to be, that is, not when playing Agent Smith.
Well, you get into a valley there where we have to debate handsome vs pretty. Like Orlando Bloom is one of the prettiest men ever, but he ain't handsome. But John Wayne, that's a handsome fella. Keanu was definitely pretty.
shareHow about Charlie Hunnam as the modern definition of "handsome"? Incredibly good-looking guy, but nothing pretty or femme about him. Keanu was very androgynous as a young man, and androgynous beauty is not to everyone's taste.
Hugo Weaving isn't handsome, but he is the kind of man I'd consider myself lucky to attract in real life. Like I said, he seems very intelligent and sophisticated, and not too far out of my league looks-wise. Just what I like.
I think Charlie is ugly as all hell and I don't understand why they keep pushing him as a leading man and his biker show was godawful.

Weaving also reminds me in some ways of both Nick Cave and Sam Neill. Not that they are all that close in appearance, but they seem to be of a common type. All three men are Australian, so maybe they stem from the same 18th century convict.
Don't be offended..both guys have very good features and seem to keep physically fit. However, I find that women who say things like this are very immature and impulsive with a narcissistic personality.
