How did ‘Negro’ become ‘Nigger’?

Anyone know the etymology?

It’s an odd word, because ‘Nigg-er’ implies ‘someone who Nigs’, in the same way ‘Blow-er’ is someone who blows.

🤷‍♂️

It changed when they stopped acting like negros.

Another white invention (stolen by blacks)

Notice the pattern?

Negro, please.

Provocative thought.

The Latin word for black is ‘niger’ maybe this has something to do with it.
I’m not sure when or in what context the word ‘nigger’ became a ubiquitous form of hate speech.

"Nigger" has derogatory connotations, suggesting not only white racism and negatively-perceived darkness of skin but also unfavorable attributes such as a lack of intelligence, chronic unemployment, use of government welfare, a propensity toward drug use and criminal behavior, etc.
