I just saw this movie for the first time and found it awful like the rest of us. Besides the movie, what I found most unrealistic is the fact we are supposed to believe our precious innocent little Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is best friends with that Carla chick. I just cannot believe they replaced Buffy with some ghetto nappy headed hoe. Her along with Jamarcus ruined the movie for me, I hate that whole angry black guy schtick.
shareI think the bad cash-in script doomed the movie, not token casting (and yes, they were awful substitutes for the two characters in the original).
What set the original apart from all the other shitty teen slashers of that era was its setting and atmosphere. The coastal town combined with the maritime themes (fisherman, rocks, cliffs) made for an original horror film. Iirc, for this film they set it in an empty hotel in some ghost town resort in the tropics - it was absolutely stock, uninspired stuff. This is an awful film.
