High School Parties

Why are all the high school parties in 90's movies like college parties? Did I miss something? I went to high school for the first time in 2003...did I go too late? were 90's parties like this?!!

I'm too cool for a signature bitches!

This sort of party was pretty common for rich kids. I went to a prep school in the 90's and while most of the students were from upper-middle class families, there were a few really wealthy kids with huge houses that hosted parties like this. I went to one where they actually removed all the furniture to storage trailers and paid off all the neighbors not to call the cops.

Paying off the cops. Lol. Sounds like a party ran by the mafia.

This doesn't sound like a true party to me. Sounds more like a social event. And paying the neighbors not to call the cops. What's up with that? Takes all the fun out of partying.

It was a social event in which a large group of people got together, listened to loud music, drank enough liquor and smoked enough marijuana to forget most of the night. Sure it wasn't two teenagers crammed into somebody's basement, but it was still most definitely a party.

I'm from Australia and graduated from high school in 97.

In my experience, there absolutely used to be house parties like this. 50+ teenagers crammed into a house/backyard, alcohol flowing, music pumping (alot of techno and grunge), sloppy hookups. Some of them got out of control in terms of damage to the house and looking back with my 35 year old brain, it was incredibly reckless. But at time it was a bunch of kids just losing their minds and not caring about the consequences. It was a *beep* great time to be alive.

The main reason I loved this movie was the nostalgic element in reconnecting with my high school days. I immediately clicked with the general vibe of the movie. I'm somewhat afraid to watch it now in case I don't enjoy it as much as I did back then.

You know it makes sense.

stereotypes exist for a reason! hell yes there were parties like these - and it wasn't just for "the rich" (which by the way, I hate that term - it is all about perspective)

I've been to parties at a seriously rich person's house (not upper-middle class suburbia as shown in this film), most of the parties were similar to the film's, then, there was the "who is throwing this party?" - you know, the one where you are doing something else, and get invited to somewhere you have no clue where you're going to . . .those actually ended up being the best kind

there was only a couple of parties that I was seriously wondering if I should be there - one was a real dumpster-fire (literally there were dumpster fires). There were biker dudes there (how the HELL did I get here?)
