Does The View suffer from gender stereotypes?: "Come for viral catfights, stay for the substance"

Is there gender bias in the way The View's "catfights" are covered in the media, particularly between Joy Behar and Meghan McCain? "The View is as essential a stop for 2020 candidates as late-night variety shows are, all of which are hosted by men," says Melanie McFarland. "And yet at times pop culture coverage seems to slump it into an adjacent category to Bravo’s Real Housewives series, as if its panelists are bickering as opposed to debating."

They should have canceled "The Screw" years ago, but ABC needed to fill in that time slot, so they got losers who haven't done real tv work in years. The "smarter" women (and I use that adjective loosely) left while the going was good.

The only 2 times I actually watched the show, I loved it because the mute button was on.

But you could still see Whoopi’s... everything. That woman makes too much money to look like a smelly, unkempt bag lady but I guess it’s her “thing”.

BTW I’ve always called it ‘The Coven’. All they need is a bubbling cauldron and voila! The 21st century version of Macbeth for daytime audiences.

Ooohh, nice comparison :). They certainly would fit right in with being witches, evil witches. The Sanderson Sisters ain't got nothing on the cast of the Coven! hehe

I feel sad for Whoopie. She was so much fun back in the 80s and 90s, and played such memorable characters. Now she's a fat, old, bitter, ogre-like hag that has mostly disappeared from the public eye, and few people even remember her younger, more likeable self. I guess when you're a leftist addicted to heroin, it eventually catches up with you.

Hit the nail right on the head there. I’ll occasionally see bits of Sister Act or Ghost while channel surfing and it’s like night and day seeing how she was then versus now. That at one time she really was likable, talented and actually gave a crap about her appearance. These days she’s a lazy, belligerent moron who gets press for saying stupid things for ratings. Sad...

Funny the OP's article says this show has "substance". The substance of pig shit brainless morons who fancy themselves "intellectuals" lap up perhaps.

If it were men hosting the show and getting into heated discussions over politics, critics would praise them for the great job they’re doing. That should answer the question.
