SPOILER ALERT: DO NOT READ BELOW IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE
Yah, swiss water. That whining girl cracks me up everytime. Minnie delivers the boiled in swiss water line with such a straight face.
There are so many great lines and scenes in the movie.
I've always been partial to the scene when she accidently discovers her letter in his bedroom. The look on her face when she realizes the truth kills me. A 4 hankie scene.
My favorite line in the movie takes place when they are on their first date. Bob is showing Grace the skyline of Chicago at night from a building he had built. (a really beautiful view by the way) Very shyly he asks her if he can hold her hand. This is my favorite scene in the whole movie.
AHHHHHHHHH! That is a good line. I can feel my heart beating loudly and I stop breathing when he asks to hold her hand. Thanks for reminding me about it.
I love the whole movie, it's full of fantastic lines!!! (the boiled swiss water thing cracks me up!!) but anything said by Megan and/or Joe made the best lines!!
"The finalised alligning of objects, cease to rest my mind."
the part where she goes, "I had some work done...on my heart." and david duchoveny is like "OH THANK GOD! i thought you were gonna tell me you were man or something."
and the part where they're at bonnie hunt's house and the kid says hell and bonnie hunt goes, "i have never said 'hell' you son of a b*tch." that whole scene is awesome.
I love the bit in the hospital at the beginning when Megan is going through one of those magazine quizzes; "What do you expect most from a relationship; A) Companionship B) Sex C) Respect. I'd have to go with B) Sex but I'll put C so we get a better score - what do you think?" It not only sums up her relationship with her husband but also shows how people delude themselves with those pointless quizzes! I also think the way she is with Grace is a wonderfully realistic reflection of how people are when they are trying to keep things light when visiting friends and relatives seriously ill in hospital.
i love the bit where minnie is being set up with the priest and he's just at the door and she can't find her scarf to cover her scar so she sits a napkin on her chest to cover it and stands there all straight faced and bonnie looks over at her... laugh out loud funny!
The whole scene before the priest shows up is non-stop laughs. I also like the line at the end of Meg's hairy legs speech. "It kept me a virgin until...ya know...whenever." Oh, and when they're at the zoo. "Everyone clap for auntie Grace. She just mailed a very important letter." Oh and "Our rhythm gets us in trouble, honey." Bonnie Hunt is a comic genius. I think one thing that made this movie so great is that she allowed the actors to ad-lib, talk over each other, and laugh out loud. Most director's would never allow that to happen. But that's real life. That's why it's so endearing and funny. While the basica plot is unbelievable, the dialogue, the action and the characters are. Genius!
"Starting tomorrow, I'm going to be unspeakably fatal."
This whole movie is so great! One of the great romantics ever, for sure! Bonnie Hunt and Jim Belushi are just so comic in this. Great chemistry together. I love the whole scene when they're putting the kids to bed and Jim says something like "Potty mouth is going to put you to bed"...and then he tells the kids "You're going to sleep FOREVER..". It's so realistic, I absolutely love it. For romantic parts, I love the part where he asks to hold her hand. I think that is so cute and innocent. This movie was a sleeper hit. I love it though! ~Tiffany
"What man is a man who does not make the world better? ~ Balian
When Megan and Grace are talking and Joe comes in and takes his shirt off... Megan says something like, put your shirt back on honey, Grace will never be satisfied by another man." Jim Belushi's response is priceless to me. Laugh out loud funny!
I also love "Matchy green, matchy matchy green squared."
I get a kick out of the lines at the bowling alley between Charlie and Joe. Charlie is introduced to Joe and tells him that he is a vet. Joe responds by telling him he didn't go to 'Nam (Vietnam).
My favorite is when Grace is entering the ape exhibit she stops as Bob passes by and the kid says "Aunt Gracie, you ok?" and she replies "yea,,,whatever it was didn't hurt".
I love all these lines but my all time favorite is the first one said. "I miss Elizabeth. I'll always miss her. But I ac...ache for Grace." Makes me wanna cry every time.
"You have bewitched me body and soul and I love...I love...I love you." -Mr. Darcy
all the ones mentioned here are fantastic, but I always crack up when Bob and Charlie are "arguing" and Bob tells a group of kids, "Hey kids! Look! Sammy Sosa!!" Crack up everytime. :-)
