That is a Nexu (I've had to fight them on Star Wars the Old Republic), and according to the original script, it ripped her entire top off, not just a sleeve and the lower half. Of course, since this was a family film, they couldn't do that, so they settled for the alternative.

It was certainly a scary creature, nay monster. The other two were a lot less memorable. But for Padme to be faced with that horrible thing was surely traumatic for her.

those things, whatever they're called, are in the Star Wars Bounty Hunter game on PS2 and they can leap across the entire map and kill you in one or two strikes.
