John Carpenters Vampires OR The Lost Boys?
Ok, two vampire movies that put a completely new twist on the genre...Which one is better? I like them both just the same.

shareThe Lost Boys undoubtedly. Not just for signalling the pervasiveness of the MTV generation, or even the awesome soundtrack. It's also the best film for sobering up at 4 in the morning. Try it.

Hahaha, I like the way you think, SmashMonkey - about both the strip poker and James Woods. Come to think of it, those two items would make a nice combination, heh heh.
shareLost Boys is cool for what it is, a cheesy 80s preteen vampire comedy. But the only good thing to come from it is the saying "s--tsucking vampire." that is classic. vampires on the other hand i think is a brilliant vampire movie. i may have a bit of a james woods bias, becuz he is one of the coolest actors ever on celluloid, but i don't think that is my whole reason for liking vampires more. i prefer vampires becuz i think they handle the material very well. i find it more compelling to watch and i know that i like my vampires to be more action based and less horror based, becuz cheap vampire shocks have been done again and again, but the psychology of vampires and vampire hunters has been done much less.
shareNeither put a new "twist" on vampire flicks. I must say that John Carpenters Vampires Was a more Enjoyable vampire flick. comparing it to Lost boys wouldn't be a hrad thing to do. Lost boys is more about the struggle of Jason Patricks character with vampirism. But in the jOHN CARPENTERS VAMPIRE'S IT'S MORE ABOUT James Woods wanting the Toughest vampire Off the raidar

It's hard to choose i love both of the movies. But i'd have to go with The Lost Boys. I was hard to choose but I remembered the awesome grandpa in Lost Boys so that gave LB half a point. Ok i know that was stupid.

Both Good: but easy call: LOST BOYS is Brilliant!
shareVampires... 9.7/10
The lost Boys... 8.6/10
the lost boys does not come near to any of carpenter's classics (except for Starman & darkstar)

DON'T GO TO THAT SITE!
I'M WARNING YOU!!
John Carpenter's Vampires for sure. I prefer the more primal vampires like in Vampires or Salem's Lot. Near Dark was pretty spooky. Cool guys, like the way vampires are portrayed in Lost Boys, Underworld, or even Le-Stat & Louie; they didn't seem very scary. The only cool vampire that is scary was Barnabus Collins.
shareI agree that NEAR DARK is far better than either, but between the two I go with VAMPIRES. LOST BOYS starts out great, but it's a kids movie. The GOONIES ending really blew it for me. VAMPIRES is darker, edgier and since I'm a grownup it was an easy choice.
"I don't know man, I just got here meself!"
Hey, I dig the eighties and all, but The Lost Boys took it too f_cking far, in my opinion. That movie had more mullets than, I don't know, a mullet farm or something. I liked it as a kid, but it's got COREY F_CKING HAIM in it, for Christ's sake! It's extremely dated, cheesy and the music f_cking sucked. And that's coming from a guy who digs synthesizers.
Vampires has its flaws, but here we are ten years later and it still works. Could you say the same for Lost Boys in '97?
Or we can break it down this way:
Director of Lost Boys -- Joel Schumacher.
Director of Vampires -- John Carpenter.
Do the math.
"I don't like prunes. They cloud my mind."
There it is.
"I don't know man, I just got here meself!"
Apples and oranges, guys. The two came out eleven years apart, and were definitely products of their respective times.
That being said, I feel compelled to add that they merely tie for the Silver Medal behind the first BLADE movie w/Wesley Snipes!

Ah! But, it was based on a Marvel HORROR comic! Ergo, BLADE I was undeniably a horror _movie_.
"That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it."
Well said, myself. Well said!

^^Carycomic, Vampires & The Lost Boys were awesome I agree, but the first Blade was seriously epic & awesome without a lot of comedy, which Vampires & LB did have. I'd give the edge to Lost Boys but they both were great vampire flicks! Blade was awesome too though! Vampires reminded me a LOT of Blade too.
"Needed the blood of the Daywalker" "needed the blood of a Crusader." etc.
"I am the ultimate badass, you do not wanna `*beep*` wit' me!" Hudson in Aliens.

Vampires might not be the greatest vampire flick ever made, but it's decent.
The Lost Boys is a comedy with vampires. It has some hilarious scenes and a great OST, but apart from being funny, it's quite crappy, and very overrated.
So I'll go with Vampires. I don't really like neither of them, though.
