Why was Alice even dancing with the rich guy at the party?

She gets angry at her husband for talking to the two models, but dancing seems a step beyond conversation. Was she a hypocrite?

reply

SandyR, there is hypocrisy in the behavior, but it has come with the territory of other problems. The chief fuel is that Alice has never felt secure as a wife and grown to believe that her marriage is collapsing. She is struggling, in a very childish way, to get her husband's attention. It is emphasized that Alice and Bill are not mature enough to be married, which lends itself to one of the strongest messages of the movie: be careful with sex.

reply

"strongest messages of the movie: be careful with sex." really? that was not even minor theme in the movie.

reply

On the contrary, einstein, it's a major matter in the film, and I'm very surprised that anyone who has watched this would not grasp that. The story is saturated with warnings about inappropriate relations.

reply

Correct, the girl he had an opportunity to bag ended up having aids right? Been a while since I watched this picture.

reply

Thank you, acelesson. If you are referring to the young woman with the nickname Domino, then yes, she is the one who has human immunodeficiency virus.

reply

When interpreting a Kubrick film, anything is possible. If someone tells you you're full of it, that person doesn't 'get' Kubrick in general.

reply

Thank you, SandyR! I appreciate that you understand my observations.

reply

Anyone who understands this film knows that infidelity is a central theme, probably *the* central theme. You're spot on. I think it even extends beyond marital relations. The costume store owner was willing to pimp his own daughter for the right price!

reply

Thank you very much, ccr1633! Yes, scary and freakish things appear in this film. Eyes Wide Shut demonstrates that regardless of its sound, there is nothing amusing about treating sex as a party or means for cash. Both are an outrage and quickly grow dangerous.

reply

It's a party, dancing with someone old enough to be her father is appropriate enough.

reply

Yes, I agree.
And she was not really angry at Bill.

And also, she was dancing in plain sight, while he disappears for a bit. So, there are no doubts about what she did at the party, while his actions are open for questions.

reply

haha, and that looked EXACTLY like a woman dancing with someone old enough to be her father...
