reason for dialog?

was there an interesting or good reason the dialog was spoken at half speed, and often repeating the previous question?

"Reason.... spoken... at... half....... ........ speed? ......and....... often..... repeating.... the previous....... question?" [see what I did there??]

This movie could have been half as long.

the slower tempo helps the dreamy effect of the entire film

It makes for a deeper, hypnotic experience.

There’s great power in repeating dialogue, chewing it over, keeping the question alive. Same with the slow pace, nothing is breezed over, every moment goes several layers deeper.

It’s as if the film is accessing the dream part of your brain. Much like a David Lynch film, the effect is hypnotic and stays with you - the film haunts you until you’re compelled to view it again.

I have to watch EWS at least once a year, usually around Christmas.

"You don't belong here. Take off your clothes."
"I...don't...belong here? Take...off...my clothes?"
"Yes."
"...yes?"
