I can't see why we shouldn't.

Well, it's a very pro-God movie.

Did I tell you I'm wearing sixty-dollar boxer shorts?

reply

Atheists generally don't let differences in theistic belief stand in the way of enjoying an entertaining film.
There's plenty of anti Harry Potter nutjobs out there to fill that niche.

Actually i'm rather surprised you say it's pro god considering that there is a thread here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/board/thread/67772407?p=1 full of outraged christians who find this movie offensive.

If you disagree god will reach down from the heavens & bust your chops. That's science.

Well, it's a very pro-God movie.
How is it a pro-God movie?

I see it more as a movie working under the assumption that there is a god, like "lord of the rings" works under the assumption that there are dwarfs. Enjoying Dogma doesn't require believing in god any more then enjoying LotR requires believing in dwarfs.

I think humanity should be wiped out and then we can give evolution a second chance.

reply

ROFL there ARE dwarves dude..... :P

I am a fully fledged atheist and I love this movie...

reply

Yes, the movie is hysterically funny.

so bollocks is bad, but dogs bollocks is good?

reply

lmao p-k-one ur hilarious, ur analagy is so awful.

btw its always religious people who would have biased feeling against "blasphemous" stories rather than athiests disliking stories with a religious theme.

Athiests dont like movies that are pro religion and/or are idealistic with unrealistic application of religion to every day activities. For instance, if a character was going to steal from his friend, explaining how god wudnt like it would turn atheists off.

its not just stories about religion, its stories where religion is some sort of way to fix things cause history shows us that its the very opposite lol

the only way religion is good for the world is if there was only 1 religion. thats just stupid to expect to happen because people from different areas will believe different versions of things and whos to say whos right?

reply

the only way religion is good for the world is if there was only 1 religion.
Which one?

Well, since 50% of the people are women, it would have to be a religion that does not discriminate against women.
It should also not discriminate against gays.
It should not discriminate against those who doubt religion since there are always going to be those who are just build in such a way that they can not believe.

Those are 3 very simple wishes. Just a religion that is tolerant of women, gays and skeptics. And they just excluded the overwhelming majority of all religions, including all of the big ones.

It should be a religion that does not encourage superstition and does not inhibit progress. The famous example of Newton, who at one point when he failed to calculate the solution to the mathematical problem of gravitational pull of celestial objects against each other said that god corrects the imbalance, should not be possible under that religion. Neither should it be possible for a mother to try curing her child's epilepsy with an exorcism.

I think that just took care of the rest of them.

No my friend, there is no way any religion would ever be truly good for the world.

LOL everything is pro god when your a god pretender.

god has a reason to starve and slaughter babies with diseases and give them AIDS

god has a reason to slaughter everyone in the world for being as it made them knowing people will still be the same! INSANE

Immensely

Kung fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene...

reply

Very much so.

And then.....AND THEN THE CAGE COMES DOWN!

reply

Atheist, I don't know.
atheist is greek (a -teo, any god), they had no faith in "anything bigger", so I can't say if they found funny people who act beliving in something.

As Agnostic (A gnosis - Any dogma) and born in a catholic country, I found very funny all the puns about the "choreograpy" and the "bureaucracy" of people pretending to be the legitimate rapresentative of The Big One.

reply

Loved the movie, back when I had faith, and even more as an atheist.

reply

I'm an atheist and I love Dogma.

reply

Loved it!

reply

Dogma doesn't make fun of God. It makes fun of organized religion.

Dogma doesn't anger Atheists. It mocks the Christian faith, which is why it angers Christians.

Dogma points out the tiny details that Atheists for centuries have noticed when reading the Bible, and have thought 'wait, who's thinking this *beep* up?'

There's nothing wrong with believing in God. It's when you organize it, and make one specific person the 'leader' of a 'group' that believes in God, that things go south.

*btw, I am an atheist*

reply

i dont think it was mocking christianity, at the end of the day it wasnt even a particually belief oreinted movie per se.
if anything it was pro-christianity by displaying it in a somewhat positive light which is refreshing from the conservative nut job christian perspective movies tend to show.

"Dogma points out the tiny details that Atheists for centuries have noticed when reading the Bible, and have thought 'wait, who's thinking this *beep* up?"

i dont know what u spesifically mean there apart from the dialouge at the start, but the irony in that was all the points he made were totally redunant because (in the movie) god is a real thing. just like in real life, the argument is also redunant because everyone eithers believes or they dont believe and there is no reason for ANYONE to assume having no faith is somehow superior to having faith or vice verca.

reply

your right about everything and no one should think there superior no one should think a faith is wrong and their right or the other way around you either respect what someone believes or if you make fun of somebody and be a *beep* whitch is stupid to be a ahole iv seen it happen and its stupid and im already seeing sterotyping whitch i see a lot and wished that i didnt see in this cool bored

reply

Counter-question: Why should an atheist (or agnostic, for that matter) dislike Dogma? It's funny, clever, and raises some excellent points about the christian -especially catholic- notion of serving your religion.

Organised religion I have a problem with, the concept of god not so much. I think the movie has the same kind of opinion.
I'm an atheist, and yes, I do like it.

reply

I'm an atheist and this is one of my favourite films. I suppose I just see it as a work of pure fiction :) and a brilliant one at that.

reply

Any fantasy and sci-fi will have stuff most people don't believe, I know for a fact I don't believe in Hobbits but that doesn't stop me liking Lord of the Rings.

reply

i'm an atheist, i gave up watching the movie halfway through as i considered i was wasting my time (i have given up on maybe 5 movies in my life)
