Why do black people tend to hate this film?

Every black person I've talked to about this film hates it, I don't understand why.. this movie is anti-racist it shows the negative consequences of having hate towards other races, one of my black friends didn't seem to get it and says he hates the movie because it is "racist".

Has anyone else noticed this, or if you are black can you tell me what you thought of the film?

Thanks.

Its a hard film to watch, because it focused on an ugly truth that is unfortunately never gonna die down. I'm a white man, but hearing the N word said, even as a friendly way is so hard for me and I live in the projects, so you know its said all the time. I'm also German, so when the whole Nazi thing is shown, its another part of the ugly hateful history we have, but I force myself to view the film and it is a really great film, it opens a persons eyes and it is a film that I will show to my kids if I ever have any and to my niece and nephews when they are old enough. Its a powerful film that should be shown in high school's and other forms of social media to keep the message out there at the wrongs of racism

Not being funny (I'm also not black, just offering an opinion) but, throughout the film and the little that I saw of it, all I saw were black people being discriminated against, in some cases apparently for no reason. Why WOULD they like that in a film?

reply

Well, everything changes in the guy that was a neo-nazi. He did a complete 360 and became a non-racist. You just have to watch the whole film to get it.

Black girl here. Nothing more to contribute because Deano said it already

I've personally never talked about the film with any African American person, but a lot of people(black, white, Hispanic, etc.) have a very solid 1 view of racism. They simply are not able to comprehend deeper meanings in a film like this- this is the whole of American society in any race.

The bottom line is that while, yes, the gang members are black, the biggest gang in the film are the neo-nazis. Even the black crip members are seen as victims while the characters like Derek see themselves as victims. This brings about how hypocritical the neo-nazi movement is.

For sake of bringing this into current racial tensions going on, we have a lot of people that aren't able to understand more than a black and white version of racism. No pun intended. I would consider this the prime fictional film to tackle the complicated race issues we face. It's purpose was not to sympathize with neo-nazis, it was to highlight the raging hypocrisy found among such groups.

All in all, I see it as an issue that many people just don't think of it in more than a one sided view.

I don't have an answer to your question but you can add at least one white guy that hates this film.

"I wrapped his ding-dong in seaweed and he's been smiling ever since!"

Well... I guess it was bound to happen that someone would mosey on into this thread and ask that you explain. So, please, by all means... elaborate.

I'm not a control freak, I just like things my way
