Was Jim Carrey snubbed?
Do you think Jim Carrey deserves at least an oscar nomination por his performance in this movie?

shareI agree, the end scene with the boat crashing into the wall.. gets me every time :)
shareIt's by far his best performance in a movie (though i haven't seen Man on the Moon), so he should have got at least a nod. Just like Tom Cruise in Rain man, he missed out on a nomination.
shareCome on guys, this is Hollywood! We all know the drill here. Carrey for as immensely gifted as he is, he isn't in the clique. So here's how it will run down: He will be prolific and talented during his prime and the Academy will look the other way. Then when he is much older and making fewer movies he'll get an Oscar nod out of the blue for a good, but otherwise insignificant roll/movie. Now whether he wins the trophy or not this will be his "lifetime achievement" moment in the eyes of the Academy. And to them, their account with Jim Carrey will be square. You see this sort of thing happen from time to time. BS? Absolutely.
"Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!"
The oscar noms were quite different back then. These days he would have probably been nominated. When I say this I also think about how comedians are seen now and how they were seen then. Would you imagine in 1998 that a movie like Bridesmaids could have been nominated for Best screenplay Oscar? Or Jonah Hill being nominated for an Oscar?
Feel your heart beat.
Thanks for your post, I came on here to make the same comment. I think he certainly deserved to win an Oscar for his performance. He was great.
shareWas he good enough to win? Sure, why not.
Lately it seems like more comedic actors have been getting nominations for far less impressive performances in their first drama film, and yet Carrey has given more nuanced and "rangy" performances since the Truman Show (arguably even in his early, wackier roles) and he's got nada. So yes, I believe Carrey at the very least deserved a nomination for his first real serious role.
You want something corny? You got it!
