I guess that I don't understand your post. The Criterion Collection (which, I must point out, is a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films) does not put out "crap" that will lose money. They put out quality DVDs of influential and critically acclaimed films that deserve recognition, such as Straw Dogs, The Battle of Algiers, and, most importantly, Armageddon and The Rock. They, like many other film scholars in the know, feel that Steel is a highly artistic film that features a tour de force performance by Shaquille O'Neal. The influence of this film can be seen on all of the recent comic book based films that have followed it: from such diverse films as Spider-Man and Sin City. The normal price for a Criterion DVD is usually $30-$40, and they have a high collecitbility due to the quality of the films and attention to restoring them to the director's vision. The reason that the Steel DVD will be a little bit higher on the pricing range, I am led to understand, is because of the wealth of special features on the second disk, the extra-sized collectible booklet, and the built-in fan base that is willing to spend an extravagant ammount of money on a long-awaited Steel DVD. You may dislike this film, but you are in the minority. As mlynch15, another poster on this message board has eloquently put it, Steel is the best superhero movie of the last decade.

P.S. - For those interested in other upcoming Criterion releases, I have also heard of their upcoming Chairman of the Board release. I have posted on the imdb page for that movie, for any true film collector who wants to know the specs for that excellent film starring avant-garde comedian Carrot Top.

You forgot to mention live coverage of Shaq's Oscar nomination for Best Actor...

"Perception is reality." -unknown

reply

I did forget to mention that, now that I think of it... only you goofed a little. You mentioned his nomination, but not the fact that he took home the Oscar and also earned roles in such high profile blockbuster films as Kazaam!

reply

Aha! You have slipped up, dear friend. Among your obvious truths and well researched facts about Shaquille, you claim that the Oscar he won for this earned him his role in Kazaam, when in fact this film came out one year AFTER Kazaam! How clumsy of you.

They don't sell this movie on DVD in stores and they should. I have it on VHS and I want to get rid of it. I stopped collecting VHS and I am replacing movies with DVD.

reply

It really isn't worth my time to even respond to this, but I just have to say that, duh, obviously he is a bad actor and Steel is a crappy movie. This thread is meant to be a joke. If making a joke to poke fun at a crappy movie is considered lying, well I guess that I will consider being called a liar as a compliment. But I guess that means that there are a lot of liars out there then, so feel free to go vent on them instead.

wasn't it your daughter that was in that film, STEEL?

MOTHER OF WOMAN FROM STEEL(who's name is insignificant)
No, no, i don't have a daughter, never have, and if i did i woul't not admit to her being in THAT film...NEVER EVER!!!

NEIGHBOUR
Ahhh, well yes it was a rather *beep* film and a large waste of money considering that Shaq o'neil was in it and as he was an NBA star would have demanded a stupid amount of money for his role and would have got as he is obviously a bankable A list star...NOOOOOOOOOTTT!!!

I cannot say how much i hate this film.....

Peace out

Disc One: The Movie
- New digital transfer of Samuel L. Jackson's face to Shaquille O'Neal's unwelcome visage
and Richard Rountree's voice in 5.1 channel Dolby Digital soundtrack
- Audio commentary featuring angry fans of quality work and movies that provide actual entertainment.
- Second insightful audio commentary featuring the one moviegoer in the world who actually thinks "Steel" was a quality masterpiece.
- Subtitles to explain said moviegoer's incoherent ramblings, as said fan is deaf and vision-impaired.

Disc Two: Special Features
- Forging the Steel: An All-New Documentary on the History and Making of a Hollywood flop.
- Four Color Heroes: From Comics to Film - A documentary on the history of DC comics to film transfers (including Superman III, Batman & Robin,
and Catwoman, we all know what booming successes those movies were)
- Analysis on the motivations and psychology of the makers of Steel
- Deleted scenes which would have bumped up Steel's rating to R for "Razzie"
- The music video for Shaq's "What's Up Doc (Can We Rock)?" for anyone who still has hope.
- Storyboards and production design drawings of the Oscars and Awards that never materialized.
- A 62-Page Collectible Booklet featuring a sample comic book of "Steel" one of the many casualties of the movie, three film reviews
(by Roger Ebert, Jeffrey Lyons, and Owen Gleiberman), and histories of Kenneth Johnson, Shaquille O'Neal, and the Steel character,

So a documentary about what most fans consider the worst comic book films in history?
