I would not let my children watch this movie.

This movie is so unlikeable because of the blatant hating of men. The movie treats men as useless and disposable while the women are treated as strong as valuable. If the roles were reversed the rating of this movie would have been stuck at 1 or 2. The movie has no problems killing off men here and there. The men gets blown up like nothing and no one gives a *beep* - yet not even one woman dies and even the antagonist woman gets to live in the end with a changed heart.... I usually enjoy movies from Hayao Miyazaki and I probably would have enjoyed this without the misandry but sadly they decided to ruin it....

and I thought you were gonna make a point about the graphic violence.

Ahahahahahahaaaaa

Return to reality pls. In reality movies are dominated by men and women only exist there to support that. As wife, mother or some friend. In real Hollywood is against women. Women are a minority in movies... and they have to please the male eye.

I don't know how it's called but there actually exists a list about what a movie has to fulfil to be counted as non-sexist. Like the woman must have a name and talk to another woman with a name and that chat should not be about men.
Pretty poor requirements I thought but the list of movies that don't even fulfil that is shocking. Many popular blockbusters among that.

So pls stop complaining when there exist few examples of a reverse.

The Bechdel test. For your information, that test was made up by American cartoonist Alison Bechdel in 1985, when it appeared in her comic strip Dykes to Watch Out For. As such it is a pretty meaningless and one-sided analysis tool that's been derided by anyone with half a brain, except by third wave feminists (how surprising...not).

Gender might be, in and of itself, one of many tools to analyze an art piece, but I have yet to see a proper gender critique that doesn't fall in the common trappings of slandering a cultural product and its creator(s) for supposedly harboring hidden misogynistic tendencies. Furthermore, most people leveling this sort of criticism usually tend to be heavily agenda driven megalomaniacal individuals out to make a name for themselves, no matter how and at who's expenses. All I've ever witnessed in such critics is a profound ignorance regarding the topic they spew their bile at, as well as a constant appeal to their audience's basest instincts and a pronouced hatred towards facts or arguments that contradict their narrative.

Besides, anyone putting together a list of things that should feature, or not, in a film or in any other cultural product in order for them to be "socially acceptable" is a certified moron, who either doesn't understand the point of art in the first place or simply wishes to muzzle anyone else's freedom of expression but their own.

And if you really believe that women only exist to support male dominance in films, then how about you stop watching dumb Hollywood productions and start looking into foreign films? Or better yet, just drop the overly simplistic feminist lens and proceed to actually see all those black and white Hollywood classics, which are in fact brimming with powerful and strong female characters and performances. Why don't you try expanding your horizons before you buy into the tripe those sensationalism mongers are peddling?

reply

It could be made up by a chimp and still keep its point.

It's no point to determine the quality of a movie. Or reduce a movie just to that.

Passing the test can still mean a stupid movie with one dimensional female characters.

And who says that it has to step out of that?

It's the point that 'points out' the role of a woman does not even reach a cliche level of talking about women topics like makeup, to another woman. Let alone none-cliche topics.

Whether the movie is good or not is completely off this fact. It's subjective anyway.

And to get back at the topic... It's my reply to this topic complaining about a reserve setup.

And if you really believe that women only exist to support male dominance in films, then how about you stop watching dumb Hollywood productions and start looking into foreign films?

I said it's Hollywood. And many blockbusters.
I didn't say it's all. Nor did I say that I dislike those movies.

Correct. The Bechdel test was satirizing that most Hollywood movies don't even include those three requirements for women, yet are loaded with them for men.

Let's be bad guys.

What is this? MRA/feminists clickbait? You ought to pull your head out of your arse, smell some fresh air and let go of those silly gender politics non-issues.

I agree the movie is not very kid friendly. There is alot of violence and morally gray areas in it. I also agree that the movie blatantly hates on men in favor of praising women. But lets be honest here so does almost every movie to at least some degree. Feminism has taken ground in almost all aspects of media and it will die a very slow death. You can't expect their hatred to simply vanish. Movies with strong women shouting "women are better than men." as they mass murder men are far from disappearing. An it will not be for many many years before people llok back and realize just how sexist these films were. What you are thinking is too ahead of its time. You live in an unfair corrupt world. The question is are you going to resist the current planting seeds that will not come to fruition in your lifetime or will you let them charge blindly off the cliff as I do. Letting these people become more and more extreme in their views and hate on men all they want is probably better in my opinion then trying to help them. They will destroy them selves and those around them. You and other innocents may be harmed but it is that very harm to brings the resentment that nourishes the seeds to come.

reply

Nah. You forget, the main hero of the film was a man. And that goes for pretty much most films.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Then don’t.
