Best Eddie Murphy Film
...apart from the Beverly Hill Cops obviously!
Did anyone else think the same??? I just think that this film had great action and actually saw a serious side to Eddie Murphy

How about Shrek/Shrek2? (Sadly ) his best movies in long time.
shareNot his best, but up there. Beverly Hills Cop I and II, Coming to America, Shrek and Shrek 2, Trading places, are all just as good as Metro.
I've always thought that no-one gave him the respect he deserved for this gritty performance as a no-nonsense hard nosed metro cop.
Destroying an empire to win a war is no victory. Ending a battle to save an empire is no defeat
The first "Nutty Professor" is one of his best too.
shareI think Beverly Hills Cop is his best movie. He's made a lot of good movies and he's one of my favorite actors.I only saw a bit of this movie so I cant really talk about it.

Beverly Hills Cops are all great fun, but this is his best film, I agree.
shareHe was AWESOME in Trading Places. I'd have to say that was his best film. Second best would be either The Distinguished Gentleman (underrated film, IMO) or Coming to America. Metro doesn't come close to any of those.

Don't forget 48 Hrs.
shareYep I would agree. His best since Beverly Hills Cop. This was a time when they actually made some suspenseful action films. I've seen it numerous times, and its still good. Managed to be a good action film, as well as keeping his trademark humour. It also helped having a genuinely creepy bad dude, surprised that guy hasn't played more villain roles, he was very good.
shareThis was eddies last awesome action movie before he went to kiddy movies i wish he would make another film for us adults i love this movie and have repeatedly viewed this one
shareBeverly Hills Cop and Coming to America.
sharey want he make no 2
shareMetro is a good film imo. But it's got nothing on the 48 Hours films or the 3 Beverly Hills Cop films. But it's definitely better than anything he's done in the last ten years.
shareYea in the Eddie Murphy action comedy drama it is a better film. A lot more serious and than I Spy, Showtime, I think it's slightly underrated. It's a lot better than the rating it deserves a 6.5 movie easily.
shareYou mean the 2 Beverly Hills Cop films.........BHC 3 seemed more like something Disney made.
"And what was it last time? Didn't know what the box was?" - The Female Cenobite in Hellbound
So many critics complained about how different Beverly Hills Cop II looked and felt compared to the first film, but I've always felt the 3rd film in the black sheep. Something about John Landis's direction feels off for the genre, which is a comedy with the "Cop Movie" asthetic. I know the second film wasn't that funny, but it felt more in the same universe as the first. Cop III was shot like a wacky comedy at times, the chop shop fat guy sing a long, every moment with Bronson Pinchot and Uncle Dave... etc...
I like to pretend that Metro is the real Beverly Hills Cop III, with a different name because it drops the Beverly Hills Angle and has Axel relocated to San Francisco as a Hostage Negotiator. Or that Metro is a prequel to Murphy's Dr. Doolitle films.
To me BHC I & II and especially Metro are Action flicks with a comic relief...BHC III was more focus on comedy with some action sprinkled in.

Just saw the movie on Starz and enjoyed his portrayal. What made BHC was the music. This movie gave Eddie Murphy a more of an acting and less comedic role. What I don't understand is the low rating.
What are you gonna do? Kill me? Every body Dies. John Garfield (Body and Soul)
I've always liked this one in terms of Eddie's action films. I think it's better than any of the BHC sequels or Another 48 Hours.
I always thought the end could have done with a re-edit though to make it so that he was deliberately killing Wincott with the metal pole rather than by luck as it appears in the film.
Action-wise, I would say Beverly Hills Cop is his best, followed by 48 Hours followed by this.
Comedy-wise I would say Coming to America, The Nutty Professor then Trading Places.
