I wanted the Jackal to win!
I was kinda hoping the jackal would win. Anybody else??
shareYea i was incredibly upset when the jackel died, he was cooler than Gere. And those who dont like when bad guys win? You're a bunch of tools. They are movies, get over it.
shareI don't understand how he didn't. And yes I was rooting for him too, I mean, the amount of courage it takes to put all that together is unreal, the balls on this guy should have a monument to them, and Mulqueen just worked with the cops the whole time, it doesn't impress me that he had the CIA on his side and Willis just kinda did this alone. A Jackal escape at the end could have brought this movie up two stars in book.

I agree he had balls, but he was ice. He had no conscious and was pretty cold blooded. His demeanor was always the same throughout. I think in real life he would have probably escaped.
Wouldn't it have been ironic to see that the Jackal had a wife, kids and was an active member of the PTA in his district. As I said in another post, a prequel was definitely needed for this movie.
Totally agree, would've loved to have at least seen him get away....very intricate movie (of course plot holes exist, but so what, still very cool), with many adaptations possible...
sharebest to read the book by Forsythe, although this film is only a very loose adaptation, to get a feel for the fate of the characters.. at the end of the original film Day of the Jackal, which was a very 'faithful' screenplay, only the chief detective who hunted the assassin shows up to watch the Jackal's body get tossed into an anonymous grave, this being sort of a professional semi-tribute. the Jackal was a compelling character, but not one you sympathize with.
the notion of using an IRA prisoner to assist the police in hunting a more dangerous criminal is a device pioneered by Jack Higgins, in several of his spy-action stories. his famous WWII novel The Eagle has Landed featured the prototype of that character, Liam Devlin, played in the 1976 movie (of the same name) by Donald Sutherland.
I thought Gère did a credible job of playing the Devlin-like character in this presentation (Declan Mulqueen), although I don't like Gère`s work in general. I don't think his Irish accent was any worse than most Hollywood types - only the British seem to be able to do dialects with real craft. At least Gère was a bit understated (the less said from him, the better). Bruce Willis was brilliant as the Jackal, and the scenes where he encounters Declan (at the marina, in the subway) were beautifully shot, with great imagination.
better than I expected - certainly I could have lived without all the coarse language.. seems to me that actors should just try a-c-t-i-n-g.
film is available at Netflix.

I think that had this been real-life that the Jackal would not have dithered so long when he had the First Lady in his sights. As soon as he has her in his sights, he fires, and then gets away in the confusion.
shareI wanted the Jackal to win in the original film.
Its that man again!!
Yerh, I was halfway through watching it before I realized I was rooting for the bad guy.
I felt guilty

"It's got a Death Curse!" "Doomed...you're all doomed!"
yes, me hoped this.
Was kinda sad all the work was for nothing.
yes .. forgot what everyone is saying.. I wanted him to win and i felt upsed because he didn't..
I wanted the cool mysterious guy to win .. not the clumzy hero type..not the usual cliche ..not to be a predictable film..
it would be great If he won..
