I don't mind watching movies with subtitles. I know English though it's not my native but I don't understand Italian at all. So, should I watch the Italian version with the subtitles or the English dubbed version? What will be your recommendation?
Interestingly I went to see this film when it was out in the theatres when I started living in Belgium. Though I knew it was in Italian I asked whether it had sub-titles and was told it was dual-subbed, so thinking okay here we go. Got in film started and the sub titles were French and Dutch. I thought should I stay or just leave as its three languages I don't know. I stayed, throughout the film was stunning and though I hardly understood a word I got the whole plot the imagery and acting conveyed it.

Hoe anyone can find the dubbed version good is beyond me. The characters sounds like Italian stereotypes from the 40s' and 60s'. Why they couldn't find professional actors that didn't sound stereotypical is beyond me.
To me it weakens a otherwise great film.
I watched in the english dubbed version since I found it much easier to follow long than watching it in straight up Italian.
shareI'm currently watching this on DVD for the first time. I have opted for both the English language and the English subtitles at the same time. I'm surprised how different the dialogue differs from the subtitle notes, expressing what is being said in a different way.
