Now, how come we're supposed to laugh at his character cause he takes bowling too seriously....

But apparently, "we" (i.e you) aren't stupid or tacky for taking him and other lame half-assed characters here too seriously.... 20 years after this turd came out? And acting like the portrayal of him is somehow the most brilliant thing in artistic history or whatever?

If forced to choose I would watch a televised bowling match than this movie.

The [possibly unfortunate] thing about comedy is that it often represents the zeitgeist of the films release. If TBL were released in 2020 it would be panned critically. A pedophile-bowler is just not something that would fly. But John is a decent actor. Check out his lawyer character in The Night Of (HBO) and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

But it was "released" in 2020. It's currently on Netflix UK and it's available on blu-ray, DVD, etc...
