Are you for or against the death penalty?

I personally am for it. Take out the trash.

"NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!!"

I'm against it. I think it's beneath civilized people to kill people for wrong-doings.

Don't listen to the negative ones; their arguments are irrational.

reply

Generally against it because it isn't dispensed evenly and because of the number of ppl on death row who were later proven to be wrongly convicted.

Having said that, I think it should used for especially heinous crimes where there's no doubt of guilt, such as the Boston Marathon bomber. I could give him the lethal injection myself...

reply

Against
Look up how many were executed,, then found innocent. 72 if memory serves.
Better a guilty man stay free, then an innocent one, pay with his life for something he hasn't done

Frankly autocorrect, I'm getting a little tired of your shirt

reply

I am for it, but it is too difficult to use at the moment.

Against. Cheaper to keep them alive. But not why I am against it. Frankly, I'm of the philosophy that those who receive the Death Penalty should be studied so we can learn how to prevent such people from existing in the first place.

But in the world we live in in the US (those here who live in the US) too many innocent people are put to death. In 2014 i read that at least 4% (the conservative number) of those on death row were innocent. Too high a number.

I'm a statistician, so I wonder where you read that data, and where they came up with that percentage. Did they later prove in court those people were innocent? Did they prove it after they were killed? Or did they run a statistical analysis for a confidence interval to guess the percentage of innocent people? Most stats online are best used as references, not facts.

Additionally, it's USUALLY cheaper to keep them alive, because the system is completely bogus. A reformed system will allow a cheaper and more effective, productive process for handling death sentences. Our complete justice system is screwed up. I got a brother-in-law who's innocent, and has yet to be "proven guilty" in court, but is still being held in jail AFTER A WHOLE YEAR. So I do understand completely many innocent people get thrown in jail, and I understand the death sentence has to be executed when the defendant is 100% guilty and has to be a complicated process. But in no way do the people who are guilty deserve to live, and no way does society need those people.

I am still for the death penalty, but most of all I am for a complete revision of the justice system.

reply

Death Penalty isn't serving justice, it's serving revenge. Revenge usually doesn't care who gets the punishment, as long as someone does. It's a legal murder but still murder.

I am for the death penalty. If you are not, go read about "The Wichita Massacre" and the Carr Brothers and all that they did leading up to the actual murders they committed and tell me these two are less dangerous than any wild rabid animal that walks the earth.

This is not about suffering. The world is just a safer place without some people in it.

reply

I'm against it, murder is wrong. The death penalty is like saying "It is wrong to kill without the permission of a judge and a bunch of juries".

reply

I'm not American but i would love to have the death penalty returned here
