Not a chance. The segment in which Cruise is extracting the information in that safely guarded room is better than the whole of MI:2 alone.

Don't waste your breath, it is pretty apparent what kind of... movie fan OP is... aside from being clueless that is, because as you mentioned already, MI:2 is the weakest in the whole franchise - by far.

But that happens when you let a completely over-rated director do it who only knew how to make people fly through the air on wires...

You make unsubstantiated claims that I "insulted you" and even now you completely ignore both questions I asked. We both know why you do so. You cannot answer either of them and now all you have is to pretend you're "so above it all" and quote fucking Socrates like that means anything.

Especially ironic considering you do what you complain about...

I think 1 and 2 are equally bad but for different reasons. At least the first one has the cool 15 minute heist portion in the middle.

The first is actually my favorite, though I understand why others would disagree.

I'd say the second MI was my least favorite by far.

This one keeps the focus more on the spy-thriller aspects of the genre, so it's my favourite of the first three. I haven't seen 4 onwards, so I won't comment. But unless they outdo this one in terms of double/triple crossing, paranoia, and spycraft, I don't think I'd prefer them.

The heist stunt in the middle also set an acrobatic precedent that the other films seem to feel the need to mimic, whether the story demands it or not.

"Spy Thriller" you hit the nail on the head. Unlike the other films, though I like them, are more just mindless action. There's something very smart and thoughtful about this one.

I don't understand how anyone could find it boring.

Thanks for saying so! I can't comment on every film, as I've only seen the first three, yeah, the second and third films are more concerned with action sequences and trying to live up to the Langley heist. In fact, it has always seemed to me that each M:I has more and more impossible-seeming stunts (I'm going on the trailers) and I always think, "You're just trying to live up to a high-wire computer hacking sequence with high stakes, higher tension, and no music whatsoever." M:I's heist sequence is amazing and I think they keep trying to duplicate it.

As to boring, yeah: this film is anything but. I suppose if one got too tangled up in the plot threads (it is a bit of a confusing story the first time through) it could get a little frustrating. But I'd rather be challenged to keep up than spoon-fed fight scenes.

Truthfully, I have a hard time keeping up with all the films, but I'm just going along for the ride. The newer ones are actually better than II and III, at least in my opinion.

I've heard that. I'd maybe watch the others, but I just don't really feel the need to go after them or track them down. I have a huge list of films I want to watch, so I'm not really looking to add some fairly generic action movies onto my docket.

It's the best one. 2 is awful

3 is bland like everything by JJ Abrams

4-the rest are solid but they all blur into one single amorphous blob of noise, generic villains with irrelevant motivations, and flashy stunts

Christopher McQuarrie just a shill, Tom Cruise has been running the series for the longest time now. He prioritizes gimmicks like stunts because they drive his ego and are good for marketing

Brian de Palma brought genuine style, the first one is a genuine spy film. Every other director in the franchise, except apart from John Woo, shrunk underneath Cruise's starpower

I have enjoyed the whole series but I will agree that 4-7 are lacking in the story important and feel a little generic plot-wise. That said, Fallout is probably the best film overall in the entire series.

And yes, say what you will about M:I 2, but Woo stamped that thing hardcore with his own style. It feels very different from every other film in the franchise.
