Still the best Mission Impossible movie

Still? Eeeh.

Well, it perhaps is for a certain crowd. But where I stand, not even close. Alright... maybe fourth best.

I’m a fan of it, however other than De Palma’s direction nothing else in the first film holds up that well. Now seeing how most people who hold the first film in high regard dismiss the sequels as nothing but action flicks that lack a strong script and simply can’t compete with MI1 from a filmmaking standpoint (lol), I’ll go against the opinion you all hold by praising the remarkable high-octange action seen in the sequels and go as far as to say that I’ll unapologetically take the best action sequences from the last three films over anything the first film has to offer. :) And no, as top-notch as the action is, the likes of Rogue Nation & Fallout would probably feel a little empty if they didn’t have a lot more to offer, like say, a tight script and even tighter direction that, yes, give De Palma’s film a run for its money. Luckily, they succeed in these areas. *gasps*

So the rightfully unpopular 2000 sequel notwithstanding, this franchise has gotten much better in every aspect. (Jaw dropping stunts aside, Cruise himself has delivered far more nuanced and intense performances in the sequels.) It’s fine though, y’all can keep the first.

1,4,5,6 are very solid action movies.

Agreed. It´s more of a spy film than any of the ones that came after it which is what I like about it.

I like all of them. The series as a whole is much better than the bond films. Tom Cruise, like him or hate him...is a big reason these films are so good....
