Incredibly Boring

The creators of Mars Attacks! had such a massive talent pool and just completely wasted every bit of celebrity that was in this. Not funny in the least. 30 min in and I had to turn it off. Do people actually like this flick?

reply

It's possible for other people to have different opinions to you.

Save us from these cretins who think there is something wrong with other people if they like something that they don't.

Over-opinionated wanker.

reply

What's so good about it?

reply

That's not the point. I never even said I liked it.

My point was why do people like you think there is something wrong with people who like things you don't?

reply

I'm asking if people like it so I can hear the reasons as to why

reply

You didn't ask for opinions, you just asked if they liked it, in a tone that suggested incredulity.

You trashed the movie, and you come across as ready to do the same as anyone who likes the movie.

reply

Yes, people do. It's a good parody of the cheap 1950's science fiction movies.

It's supposed to be stupid, silly, and weird. The blowing up of Congresss, hilarious. The weird pervert letting an alien in disguise into the White House is strange and a good joke about political staffers being creepy. Country music kills aliens just by listening to it, Awesome. Media personalities having bad relationships and falling in love with their subject matter experts is pretty spot on. It's no Naked Gun, but it's still fun.

reply

^^^ this is why it's enjoyable.

Everyone is allowed different tastes in movies.

reply

Heck yeah. I didn't like Ghostbusters 2016. I know people who do. I love Bad Taste. Others find it too stupid. Most people love Wizard of OZ or the original Star wars. For all our differences, we can always enjoy a good conversation about movies.

reply

that's the spirit!!!

reply

I draw the line at Ghostbusters 2016. If you liked that film you should refrain from giving critical praise/disapproval.

reply

The majority of people I've met who like the movie, and aren't pretending to because of politics, like it because they never saw the original as a comparison.

That's usually a fun opportunity to watch the original.

reply

I don't care about politics. As far as I can tell politics wasn't part of Ghostbusters 2016 anyway(although I am yet to make it through more than 45 minutes of it after several attempts).

I feel the same way about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Once again, I am a massive Indian Jones fan(like Ghostbusters), so I really tried to watch it, several times, but never made it past the halfway mark. It is just so bad.

reply

I second your stance.
I agree that art is in the eye of the beholder.
But criticism should be formed after an education on the topic is formed.
Anybody that likes either of those abominations, maybe because they have not seen the original, should consider themselves too ignorant to pass out any judgment.

It’s what you might call campy. Weird and silly and sticks with you. Yes, it’s like like ‘50s scifi movies, but it’s specifically based on the Mars Attacks trading cards of the ‘60s: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Attacks It’s also almost the same exact plot as Independence Day, that came out the same year.
