Bill Murray in Kingpin

does anybody else think that only Bill Murray could have played Big Ern in this movie? he was so halarious. Sure he was a horrible person, but only the talent of Bill Murray could have made this guy as big as a jack-ass as he was!

The fact that Bill Murray ad-libbed most of his lines makes it even better. Murray's characters are the ultimate jackasses.

Classic. Possibly the best ad libber of all time.

I think this movie is one of Bill Murray's funniest roles. And as brilliant as he is in the comedy, Woody Harrelson has to get tremendous credit for being able to keep up with him.

I thought Murray was fantastic!

I suppose, but you never can tell with actors. Yes, he was a jackass in private but you see how well loved he was. He was sort of like OJ Simpson. I wouldn't be surprised if he actually himself got away with murder.

i wonder if big earns hair (which was hillarious, espacially at the end) was murrays idea as well. Very funny aspect of the character. I agree, only bill murray could be big earn.

Maybe the role of Big Earn was taylor made for Bill Murray.

yes bill, along with the two gravity defying combovers kill it in this movie.

In the Heart of the Sea is a great book

Seriously, Big Ernie McCracken might be my absolute favorite Bill Murray performance, and that's saying a lot.

Me too. Groundhog Day is right up there with it, though. Too tough to call. So many other classic performances as well.

reply

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I kill all the golfers, they're gonna lock me up and throw away the key.

Ernie McCracken is the best movie villian ever!

reply

Yeah he was absolutely perfect as McCracken... I can't see anyone else doing that role as well as he did...

One of the best comedic performances of all time.

I loved his hair near the end.

I am a fan of Kingpin and a fan of Bill Murray. I was unaware of how much of his work in this film was improvised, and that is impressive to say the least. Having said that, Groundhog Day is imo, the best romantic comedey ever made. Bill and Ivan should have statues of themselves built on account of how awesome that movie is. I love Groundhog Day!

^What about a statue for Harold??

Big Ern is simply a revelation. Bill Murray is the best comedic actor of all time, bar none.

Not only is it my favourite Bill Murray role,I think Big Ern is my favourite movie character ever, just a genius turn in a strangely under-rated jem of a comedy.
